Admins: Keep a log of things that are being worked on

There was a stage last year were admins - and primarily @Sythe - were posting frequently about what they were working on behind the scenes. I would like to bring this back in a more official form. Every so often (once a week? every time an update is made?), I think it would be really helpful if admin users posted about their activity so the rest of the site can see what their time is being directed towards. Even if it's mundane stuff - bug quashing, account recoveries, etc. - I think it would do all of us good to increase transparency on this front, especially when there are exciting projects in development.

Thoughts?

 

Support this would actually be really cool to know what's going on. For example, everyone is wondering what sythe gold will do. If @Matthew made a log on it, us members could figure out what we are going to do with it/give suggestions for uses. Great idea!

 

I agree. It's a good way for admins to interact with the community too. It would be nice for everyone to know whats happening behind the scenes and whether new content is being brought to the site.

 

I agree with this suggestion completely. Often times it seems to everyone that some members of the admin team are quite inactive, so it would be a good idea to add some increased transparency so we can see all of the work the admin team is putting in behind the scenes.

It's quite possible the admin team isn't really doing much behind the scenes and some may actually be completely inactive which is why they probably wouldn't approve something like this since it could magnify their inactivity.

I also think global mods should post more actively of what their doing. Sometimes I don't see some globals for days! Esp when I don't come on, it would be nice to check back through a list of things.
Perhaps you can do it on your feedback threads, and then get feedback for what you've been doing? I don't see an issue as to why Admins, Globals can't be more transparent unless security issues..

 

The only behind the scenes work admins are Sythe and Matthew. The others pretty much do all open work, aside from approving UIs and UTs

 

Perhaps the SIT should investigate this...

I think it'd be useful for us pleb folk to know about upcoming changes and if possible provide some feedback (for example additional tweaks that we might want or be useful), so I'll voice some support for this.

What do you think about adding this for Community Admins and Globals though? I think it would be a good way to see who needs to be rotated out of a position.

That's a fair point. Do you think a once a week overview would work though? Not with exact numbers or anything, but just something to show that they're actually doing actions instead of being completely inactive.

It's very annoying, time consuming, and distracting to have to document every little thing you do on a project. General updates as things actually progress, much like how it already is, is the way to go.

 

pretty off topic but since it seems that the original suggestion isn't likely to happen, i think it's worth pointing out that mod logs dont capture the majority of mod activity. can we at least get disputes, scam reports, and pardons incorporated?
