I have a few bulging disks that pinch my nerve in my back and make it REALLY hard for me to do anything much less work out especially with how sore it gets from work. I know I can diet but it takes SO long to see results from that alone. Anyone have any tips/dietary supplements they use that they've seen results from? Just looking to lose some weight as I've been gaining weight since I'm getting older and my backs hurting more often. THANK YOU

I don't have access to anything really while I'm at work. I work on tugboats and I'm out her 2/3rds of the year. The wife and I have been swimming A LOT lately because it helps relieve the pain in my back. But as far as being able to do it consistently enough to lose weight, i'm not capable.

I had a bulging disc as well.
Roughly 6 months of rehab and stretches helped me get back in the gym. (Although I feel the bulging disc in every day movements, Its does not hurt but I just notice it if that makes sense)
Dietary supplements are all a sham.
Dieting is 50% of losing weight, If you do it properly, results come fast.

My insurance would only cover a portion of rehab/physical therapy and considering my wife and I just purchased a home and have to get everything we need for it, by ourselves it's pretty hard. I'm only 23 and she's 21 so we can only do so much. Our families aren't in any position really to help us, so we're doing what we can on our own. We've been eating healthy but I'm still only noticing small results. Just seeing if there's anything out there to help speed up the process, that's easy to do while I'm at work

Eating healthy is good but you should track your macros.
Break your calories down into fats, carbs and proteins.
Research what ratio is best for your body (Test&trial is best method)

Get a rough estimate of your maintenance calories (The amount of calories you need to not gain/lose weight) and simply eating 500-750 calories below it.
Use a food scale, you don't want to estimate portions and eat more than you should. Losing weight isn't easy but highly possible to do whilst only dieting.
Morning walks also help. Losing 2lbs a week is not slow at all and is highly achievable.

edit: here are some numbers from a cut I did a while ago. (All done with dieting and cardio)
Losing 8 pounds a month is pretty dang good. If you're on the heavier side, you can expect to lose more.

I'll have to look into that, should definitely be easy since there are apps to help with that. My wife and I have been trying to eat as healthy as possible but with our living situation, it was basically impossible. But now it's ALL up to us. I'll definitely try out what you said. I'm pretty sure losing weight will also help with my back.

I'm not obese but I am a bit overweight and that's why I'd like to change it. I used to play football, wrestle, and play baseball in high school. But since then, I've done nothing but work and do nothing when I go home. But with my wife and I working together, it should be easier now. THANK YOU all for taking the time to help me out, I'll start doing progress posts when I start hard into it (tomorrow I'll start as the day is almost over for me) Thank you again, it's very appreciated!

Im looking forward to it! Feel free to make more threads when you need help, there are plenty of knowledgeable people on here but if you need more opinions, I suggest you head on over the bodybuilding.com for nutrition advice. (They also have tons of recipes you can try that are calorie friendly)

Seen as though diet is 100% the reason you lose weight I don't see why you have a problem.

You can lose weight doing ZERO exercise and you can gain weight doing 8 hours of exercise a day. The only thing that matters is calories in vs calories out. Consume less calories than your body needs to maintain your current weight and you'll lose weight. Cardio just means you can eat more whilst losing the same amount of weight.

If you're not into dieting then try Intermittent Fasting, look it up. Its not a diet but its a way of eating, stick to the regular food you eat but cram it all into an 8 hour window, so you have 16 hours out of the 24 fasted. I've seen results from just two weeks of doing this (with a strict diet just to help out that little bit more).

If you burn as many calories as you take in everyday. Your body can be toned/fit from cardio and diet alone. Good luck man !
