I totally agree. The most recent posting of that Skype was June 9th in a public report he made like I said. Unless there is actual PHYSICAL evidence of him being hacked then I do not believe that he should escape punishment.

This happened in May. His Skype was posted on a thread 6-7 months before this. Sucks how I'm screwed over 100m for something out of my control. Like a scam quitter except I don't get repaid :/

Exactly and as posted in this picture:
    langod1

It clearly shows him filing a report on 9th June 2017.
Why would he use an insecure Skype if he got hacked. He was clearly still using this Skype even after the so called hack occurred which makes me inclined to believe it was all a gimmick to get some free coins.

Don't forget mules can be double name changed to prevent him from being affected. He's a scammer and thus should be treated like one.

I guess that is a valid point. Using a Skype that was compromised to trade again is a pretty reckless thing to do.

Whilst I have read some, i'm not going to read it all.

I do agree with you sure, but one thing that does piss me off... You tried to get ME banned for you fake purchasing something that I wasn't liable for, yet you're here bitching about others? You're no different...

The entirity of this could have been avoided if people used safe trading methods. If a skype hasn't been posted for 6 months then i think it's pretty fair to say you're not responsible.

Reusing it seems odd but whatever. I'm sure he can provide proof that he managed to recover it

You should ask for a PM to confirm before any trade whatsoever, not only with new people or whatnot. While the person in question may have been faking a hack, they also may have legitimately been hacked. Asking for a PM is good practice and should be encouraged over anything else. What would the alternative be? Have anyone be accountable for any Skype account they've posted in the past? I know I've changed Skype accounts at least twice because I feared about the security of the account. The easiest way to combat this is legitimately to encourage confirmation PMs to be sent regardless of if you've traded with the person in the past

Honestly appalled that @Island isn't on your list of awesome staff.

    @Seraphic

    In regards to OP:
The PM system exists for this sole reason. If someone is inclined to now have their skype on those following places then a PM should be 100%. Even without a PM should be 100%.

Skype has, and will continue to have, sub-par security. It's a Microsoft product.

Even Jagex has better security, capitalization in your password doesn't matter, and you can't have special characters. But the 2fa is what makes it better.

It doesn't matter what skype password you have, i had a 20+ letter one. Someone still managed to recover it with little to no information, their security/support is indeed utter trash

This place isn't somewhere to talk about my list of favourite staff @Worm.

Anyway, this is the entire point. As said here, there is a lot of mixed opinions. @TeamTofu get him to provide the proof that the account was recovered. I'm fairly sure there will be no proof to provide because this was a pathetic scam attempt in order to try and avoid a ban without needing to put in any effort.

As for everyone else here, including you @Vlad, the alternative would not be to JUST have them held accountable for any place in the past. The point here is to held them accountable if they continue to use the Skype after the scam attempt has happened OR if there is a PM which was sent within a "week" or "month" period of when the scam happened. The main issue here is the same day post/PM. Thats the main concern here that I'm getting at. Obviously not only this but there is no clarification of what a "Market thread OP" means. I was told that Market Thread OP meant active market threads BUT there is no definition of what is meant by an active market thread is. Is an active market thread one which hasn't been locked or is it one which hasn't been bumped. Also, what is the rule with bumping. When is the thread considered inactive? Is it after 1 week of not bumping, 1 month of not bumping? There needs to be clarification with this rule too. The rule itself is unclear and needs to have more clarity over when someone is and isn't held accountable

Finally just to point back at @Worm, yes the PM system exists for a reason HOWEVER that isn't to say (like I said earlier) that if you were to PM me today confirming a trade and then your Skype got hacked tomorrow and the hacker scammed me for 200M 07 then you shouldn't get away Scott-free just cause I didn't request for another PM to be sent. Thats dumb. Also Microsoft only has "sub-par" security as you claim when you sign up to Skype with a Microsoft Email. If you don't use a live: Skype like I said then you aren't gonna have that security. In this case it's Volta's fault that he chose not to sign up to Skype with a secure email address. He took the risk and someone was affected. His fault.

I completely understand and to be frankly honest, there is no safe trading platforms. There was MSN back in like 2011 and even that wasn't safe because people could just block you once they got what they wanted, but even with Discord, people can remove messages and get away with it.

Ask for a pm before any trade. I legitimately even if I've traded someone 100s of times like @Dave, I will get them to send me info through Sythe for example what Runescape account to trade to ensure it is actually him. It's simple and if you were around for the mass hackings in 2015 you'd know that's the only way to ensure safety while skype trading.

I was banned in 2015 so no I wasn't around for it but bare in mind rules in 2015 were much different to how they are now. Dave would be held responsible for any trade even if he was hacked cause his Skype is in his signature.

I skimmed the thread and don't intend to read deeply into the situation, but I'm sure you could just open a rasc thread with the info and request that he proves the Skype was recovered to staff because you believe his Skype wasn't actually hacked.

I'm aware they're different but I wasn't saying "omg it should be the exact same as 2015" but how about at least use some awareness and think "oh wow the reason Skype isn't popular as a trading method because it is so vulnerable maybe I should take precautions to ensure he hasn't been hacked". Yeah it's shitty he got scammed but at the same time doing your own diligence when trading on sythe takes away the risk of hoping the guy refunds you.

Staff won't do anything because it was in fact @Teeto who was the one who got scammed and not to mention RaS isn't the place to do shit like this. They will close the thread automatically and also Volta isn't active on Sythe anymore (I'm pretty sure). Instead I'm requiring a full staff discussion to be done in order to determine the actual rules.

I understand what you are saying BUT there are multiple rules to determine whether a user is held responsible for a hack. The two obvious ones are when it is listed on your profile or signature. Sending a PM is one thing but same day PM's are another thing. If I traded you with you yesterday for 100M 07 and you told me if we can do the trade today and I paid you 100M then you'd not be held responsible due to the fact that it isn't a same day PM. Thats where the issue lies. It's same day posts/PM's. Not to mention if you were continuing to use the Skype that you claim got "hacked" after I traded you 100M then regardless of whether a PM was sent or not is unnecessary. You are using a Skype in which a scam was placed upon thus meaning by default you should be held accountable.

A Major issue with the Sythe Rules

It is difficult to prove whether a skype was actually hacked so we have the rules mentioned in the sticky to define the responsibility of the skypeholder. The only time the rules become an issue is in the (thankfully) rare time someone somehow manages to trade a skype that hasn't been posted in an active market thread or used at all that day without any pm confirmation. If you don't request pm confirmation when trading someone, that is a big problem that you have to accept responsibility for.

As mentioned by other users, it is extremely easy to hack a skype. If the rules weren't written the way they are, someone could hack a long-inactive skype of a market user and stage a scam report to extort them.

Also him recovering his skype after the hacking does not mean he was never hacked. That's not a very reasonable conclusion at all.

Since this is truly such a rare issue I fail to see how this is an issue with the rules. Request a pm before you trade and this won't happen
