Abortion?

Actually, it was because the Founding Fathers believed that religion and government combined lead to tyranny, and because they believed that each man's religion was his own business.

Which derived from what I just said?

What laws do we have that were similar to the 10 Commandments? Do not kill and steal? Hang on a second, let me look at virtually every other society in history...oh, look, they all have these laws. Maybe they stem from a basic human desire not to be murdered or robbed?

In any case, the Founding Fathers quite explicitly stated that we are not a Christian nation.

"that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights"

now, tell me, that "Creator" does not mean God.

Hardly. You're claiming that we're a Christian nation. I'm claiming that we're secular.

My goodness! Deists, in the 18th century! Amazing.

Oh, wait, that was actually a very common belief back then, as they were not as privileged as we are in having access to such a wealth of information.

This nation, is over 50% Christian. Isn't Christmas a national holiday? Same as Easter? Those are Christian holidays.

Demographically, the U.S. is Christian. Politically, we are not. I cannot help it if businesses wish to close down on Christmas day.

This is going nowhere. The U.S., politically speaking, is a secular nation. Read the Constitution, and run a few Google searches.

"In God we Trust."

"~ one nation under God."

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof".

Constitution takes precedence.

I don't believe in abortions. There are SO many ways to prevent it. And its a real life. Don't say "it depends on the situation". If the girl is 16 and she can't take care of the baby, give it to a foster home. God dammit.

Why is any woman obligated to allow a fetus to remain in her body?

It's easy to look down on those in society who are in favor of abortions. To feel self-righteous. To act as if you are living your life morally. However it's a different story when you are the one in the situation that you have frowned upon for so long. If you are honest with yourself you will listen to your instincts of self preservation and if they entail abortion then you will do what is necessary to follow them. If you believe you are being moral by keeping the child then you have no concept of reality. It's not a question of right or wrong, it's a matter of intelligence and what's best for you. You only have one obligation in this lifetime, you must someday die. You are not obligated to do what society deems "the right thing".

She made that choice when she decided to have sex.

In before: WHAT ABOUT RAPE!??!

Although I'm not sure about this, considering the fact about foster homes can still be countered by what you said. For any besides rape victums, abortion should not be allowed.

Unlike most of you I do not believe in abortion what-so-ever. Some of you say, its up to the mother, its her body. I find that completely wrong, Its not her body. Its in her body, yes, but not of her body. Abortions could kill our next president, or doctor that finds the cure for cancer. There are plenty of other ways to go about not having a baby besides lethal injection. (birth control, condoms, abstinence, ect)

Edit: adoption is always an option.

Easter = Christian. However, regardless of its origin, people use it as a reason to be sociable - is this a bad thing?
Christmas = Pagan. Pope Julius the Second (I think) "Changed" Christ's birthday to December 25th just to keep up with a long-held widely celebrated PAGAN tradition.

I hope you realize that Christianity is just the best elements of all the Pagan religions it condemns. Don't believe me? Look it up. For example, there was a religious character a few hundred years before Christ called Mithra, who was born of a virgin mother, on guess which date? Oh, and scholars, wise men etc. followed a "shining light in the sky" to Mithra's birth location, bringing gifts.

Back on topic, now.

None of the methods of contraception are absolutely reliable. Every one of today's contraceptives have a rate of failure. I don't say it depends on the situation. It is up to the mother - why should she be forced to provide energy and nutrients for something she didn't even want, to grow? Let alone carry it around for 9 months or more.

Oh, but it is part of the mother's body. It is connected to the mother's body, and the mother's body provides the essential nutrients for it to remain alive. Take away the mother, and the fetus dies. So far as I'm concerned, it is thusly a part of the mother's body, and she has a choice what to do with her own body (or that which it contains).

No method of contraception is absolutely reliable - I said this before. With regards to sexual abstinence, the woman cannot help if she is raped or not.

Future possibilities are not a rational excuse to sway the debate, either. However I will say my part on this: What if you donated the fetus to stem-cell research facilities? I'm sure that could be a golden opportunity to advance medicinal science - everyone wins.

As shredder said, "what ifs" have no place in this debate.

If you want to fight that battle, what if they are the next kids to commit a columbine? or VT?

Or maybe, one day they will grow up to be a dictator such as hitler, murdering millions of people.

So with that in mind, an abortion would be the right thing to do.

I'm pro-choice in this argument. If the women is smart enough to realize that the baby she is carrying is a bad decision to birth (for whatever reason be is personal, financial, etc.), then she should have the right to get rid of it.

well i only think an abortion is legal if its rape because then the mother did not want to get impregnated but if its someone who has sex purposely unprotected for the better feeling and just gets an abortion to get rid of the baby i think thats sick and should be considered murder

You either support abortion or you do not. Make up your mind.

So, if a husband and a wife have sexual intercourse and they use a condom and the wife falls pregnant - does she have to keep it then? Make up your mind.
