So i'm trying ot set up my freinds xbox live, when he runs the connection test it

says that everything is fine and the messenger function on the xbox works,

meaning he has internet connection.

When we called microsoft the nice

immigrant lady told me that we needed to get some ports on our modem

forwarded.
Upon calling bell we found that the bell account was terminated and

internet service was being provided by a middle man (TekSavvy Solutions) bell

told us that even though they provided the modem we would need to call tech

savvy for an i.p adress in order to have the ports forwarded.

afdter calling

teksavvy we got the ip and then contacted bell again, we lost the case number

however. so we had to start again, and now the nice immigrant man needs a

b1 user i.d number to pull up the information about the account, since my

feeinds parents have no idea what that is, they needed a phone number, my

freinds current phone number doesnt cut it because bell only supply internet

not phone aswell, so they told us to contact Tek savvy again in order to get the

account onfromation,

since tek savvy were renting their internet and reselling

it. upon calling tek savvy he said that a router and not a modem need to have

its ports forwarded, and that they wouldnt have our account information, he

advised us to buy a 150$ linksys modem.and call linksys to have the ports

forwarded

what should I do now?

I have a modem, hooked up to my router, which is hooked up to my computer and my Xbox Live. I needed to buy a Linksys ROUTER so that I could have more ports.

If you don't have a Linksys Router already, you should probably get one, and then get some Ethernet cable, it's like Cat6 or something along the lines of that. You can pick it up at your local Staples.

You shouldn't have to buy a new router. You can access all of your router settings by getting your IP address (http://www.ip-adress.com/) and then put your IP address into your web browser. If it asks you for a username and password look at the bottom of your router and it should be there.

From there you should be able to open ports turn off NAT or anything else that xbox wants.
