Studying hard and taking a lot of honors classes will get you no where, when you study, you just memorize random crap from random classes to try and get the best GPA to get in the best college. But most people who were in a lot of honors classes end up getting bad jobs anyways. What you really need to do is learn skills in what you want to do when you grow up, so you'll have a head start. Some companies might care somewhat about your GPA, but they won't give a shit if you had a 97 in Trigonometry if you can't do what the job requires.

Mostly people who study and get straight A's are people who want to succeed, or are scared of failure. The correlation between high school grades and college freshman grades is around .54, which means it is a horrible predictor of college success. Many kids have been under pressure from their parents to get straight A's, and when they get to college they are free to do whatever they want, so they do worse.

I am not saying this happens to everyone, I'm just saying that straight A's in highschool doesn't guarantee that you will be driving Audi's later on. Same with people who suck at getting good grades. They can be more people smart than book smart and be successful in business or sales.

Highschool is basically just memorizing a bunch of pointless crap for an end of the year test, which you will forget over the summer.

Yeah but you have to also be able to effectively utilize that knowledge. And for that you need skills. And you can't memorize skills from a textbook.
