Just ensure the situation is right, prepare yourself as much as possible... mistakes are inevitable but you will overcome them,

When you say a room are you talking about your own apartment or as in a share with friends/ new people?

I guess the people you are sharing with will make up the decision way more then anything else, make sure they are the right people to share with ... you dont want to end up with some idiots whilst your trying to sleep.

If you rent room and live with random people, be sure they are around same age as you are. Will make your life easier.
I was on same situation, but we never had issues with my room mate and we are still friends even I moved out.

Make sure you can afford bills, put more money into savings than before. If you get homesick, be ready to feel it. Make sure you find a place that allows you to do things you want, or have pets if you want any. It's fun living away from the parents though, enjoy it.

Make sure you check the lease and for how long it is. You don’t want to overpay like crazy for something you don’t need. I advise you to get renters insurance, you may not think you’ll need it but it comes in handy for stolen goods or broken objects.

If I have to rent an apartment I look for one already furnished. Why? Because although you may have furniture you might not be able to fit it all or figure out how to organize it. Also it just saves money. Make sure you’re in a good location to avoid hassle and get a area where you can park your car. If you have any more questions feel free to ask :) best of luck to you.

If you're planning to be independent, do it properly, i advice you first be stable with income. I know many people who move out due to it being a "norm" if you will, but arent financially stable.

This may sound dumb, but the hardest thing for me when I moved out was cooking/having food. I was so used to meals being made for me and food always being in the house.

With that said, cooking and food shopping have grown on me and have been on the more enjoyable side of everything.

    These are all good advice.

You shouldn't be spending more than ~60% of your income on rent, as a general rule. During college, I paid a very expensive lease just to live next to campus. After college, I moved ~10 minutes away and my rent halved.

If you got your money right, then you can do anything.

If you dont make mistakes you’re definitely doing it wrong. I think no matter what you do you’ll be thinking about if you didnt do it so my advice is go for it! Good luck!
