Precautionary report

About a year and a half ago (May 2018) I purchased a comp cape RS3 account from user online for $800 USD in bitcoin. The trade was successful and all was well until yesterday, when I received a few unexpected password reset emails from Jagex, and then I tried logging in to find that the account had been successfully recovered by someone else. I no longer have access to the account.

Online is is a trusted user here on Sythe (and was back then, too) and I reached out to him today on his new Discord account to see if he is willing to help me out with this.

Note he has since changed Discord accounts from the time of the trade--I can provide Discord screenshots of the original purchase conversation if necessary, but it just says "Deleted User#0000" now, so I doubt it would be valid.

I am submitting a precautionary report in the meantime.

I don't understand how you mean am I still owner? It was traded over so that would be a no as far as I understand.
I do not possess the account, nor have done anytime after trading the account over.
The account was a resell, just awaiting on @Werewolves to send me the username of the account / PM on same thread so I can read it over and see what I can do.

You could leave it open until we reach a satisfactory resolution, if that's okay, unless you think it should be closed (or moved? is there a board on Sythe for non-scammer disputes or is that here?).

Online told me he had information available to recover the account if anything happened and would help me out, so long as I didn't accuse him of being a scammer and try to get him banned--which I'm not, I don't think it was him, now that we know it's a resale (not sure he told me that at the time of the trade, but I guess I have no record to prove it one way or the other so I'm SOL there) I think most likely it was recovered by a previous owner.

If he can't/refuses to help or doesn't have any information, I'd at least request a partial refund, because he definitely promised me that much and I wouldn't have made an $800 trade without that peace of mind.

 

Yes, that is the correct order of events. Online confirmed (here and on Discord) that the account was a resale--meaning, someone sold it to him at some point prior to May 2018, and in May 2018 he sold it to me.

Following May 2018, the account was mine and all was well until just a few days ago, when someone (presumably not Online, given his level of trust here on Sythe) recovered it. Now it is up to Online to help me try to get it back, and that's what we are presently waiting on.

So, after a couple days, Online seems to be unable to recover the account, or has otherwise given up on trying. I'm seeking a partial refund, compensating for him for the time since the trade and the losses he suffered at the time for his currency exchange.

Online is currently refusing that refund.
