Long distance relationships

Kinda hard to like a post like this so quoting for good measure.

In the end, things happen for a reason. It sucks right now, for sure, but the sooner this relationship's end arrives, the sooner you'll be able to move on. Wishing the best.

It's good it was so quick and sudden. I didn't have much time to think about it, and I immediately cut off the contact so I couldn't obsess over it. Hopefully the next relationship is a little more steady

 

This is actually accurate. LDRs wont work if both people are in agreement that relationships shouldnt turn into marriage.

 

I don't agree with that. Marriage is a title give to you by the government, and changes nothing about the relationship except makes you vulnerable to legal disputes later on. I've been married and now am divorced. I can tell you 100% that I was all in on the marriage, but once it was done, life resumed exactly where it left off, and no relationship issues were solved by telling the state that we want to fuck monogamously for years to come. We didn't marry to solve issues, but we certainly thought it would enhance the relationship-- spoiler, it does not.

So making a correction to your statement: if you're not ready to give up freedoms and commit to a person, you're not ready for an LDR. And I was looking to move to china so he could have his career, so that wasn't an aversion to me. Finding a job to support us was the only obstacle.

 

You can have all those things without calling it marriage. I stand by what I said

Very rarely I think it is worth the effort to make long distance work. Both people in the relationship have to be very accepting of a long distance commitment and the physical side able to be put aside. I strongly believe it can work, but It's never easy and often fails.

 

I'm naive and stupid. I traveled 9 hours of train every weekend to see my girlfriend when we were studying at diff universities. At the time we had been togheter for half a year, so ya, very naive.

There will be tough time, relationships are all about making compromises and sticking to what works & made you fall in love to begin with.

I am currently in a long distant relationship and it is tough.. my Fiancee is all the way in europe and I am in north america.

It is strong but as long as their is trust and understanding and working hard towards being together than it will work..


Also visiting every couple months helps a lot so make sure you do plan a ahead so you can get a cheap ticket to go visit your loved one.

 

Only the strong will survive a long distance relationship, a lot of people break apart and cheat.

 

I had a long-distance relationship that led to a breakup. I don't know if you will understand me, but I want to say that it's impossible to "care for a flower while away from it". It's been a long time since then, but I still can't start a new relationship because I'm afraid of disappointment. To be honest, I am not interested in a short relationship, because I am already ready to start a family, but something prevents me from letting a new person into my life. Perhaps I should go to a psychologist and work on my feelings, what do you think about it? @MohtasaUnique I read the entire thread. in retrospect: how did you guys manage in the end? Are you still together if I may ask? What are things you learned?

 

I got dumped almost exactly a year ago, a day after Christmas 2019 lol

I decided the best course of action was to be happy that I wasn’t trapped in a potentially toxic relationship and to take a full year off to be single, celibate, and self-serving only.

Once I settle in Washington DC next month, I think I’ll give dating a try again.

I learned that finding love works best if you have your own stuff sorted out and you're in a good place. But you're not prevented from enjoying life in the meantime. Hope you enjoy thr dating scene and good luck settling in
