wow rip all the hours spent on that game..

 

Never played on a Darkscape server, but the idea seemed really novel and like it would be enjoyable.

Shame all of the progress that people made is going to waste, but it's smart on Jagex's part to just kill it off if it wasn't very popular. No need to waste resources on it if no one's playing it.

 

They should have left 1 world open and not made any updates.

That way the hard core people left could continue playing.

 

Yeah, why didn't they just do that? I'm not familiar with DS, but is the population really that dead in order to warrant leaving not a single world online?

 

I don't think anyone really played it except for maybe some botters, not surprised it's closing down.

 

I feel bad for the people that spent time on that game, hope this doesn't happen to Deadman Mode.

 

It will. They're trying to keep 1 server alive and start seasons, but we all know that server will close soon after.

 

Seems like a very bad move on Jagex's part to close the servers down entirely. Not sure why they're going this route - if it's not big enough to warrant ongoing development, why not just leave the servers running and not dedicate any dev time to it instead?

Apparently Darkscape had more players than Deadman mode, too...

 

They didn't even bother advertising DS, all their resources were focused on hyping DM which has an even lower population despite more developer attention being given to it.

 

Video games aren't as much fun anymore when you can't gamble hey

if this happens to deadman i will be disappointed, though i think darkscape was (as mentioned above) full of bots and very minimal amount of actual players, deadman is lacking players but i feel like there is alot less bots, plus the fact that there is alot more focus on deadman updates that will hopefully make the player base boom every three months (or however often the servers will be refreshed)

I think they wanted to see which one out of darkscape and deadman would be more popular and they probably knew that they would drop the less active version

lmfao im not even gunna lie i totally called this when i tried playing darkscape in its first couple weeks....

 

Terrible decision to close it completely after many have been playing it for hours on end. They say it costed a great deal to keep up and required a separate client to maintain, so it isn't feasible to have DS worlds on the main client like it is with DMM since the changes weren't compatible. Still, it's just irresponsible that they weren't prepared for this. I called it long ago though. The niche just isn't ideal to keep it active.
