$45k does not make him a rich man. A shitty house is worth, at the least, 100k. A nice car costs anywhere from 15k and above.

In real life, not virtual money, $45k does not go a long way.

He also makes money from more than just donations. Advertisements, traffic, there are many ways to make money rather than just personal donations from members.
