I really don't understand what the big issue is here? Everybody moaned when the site was constantly crashing and now it works perfectly fine after all the big threads were deleted. Due to recent promotions in my opinion the staff team is better than ever, reports are getting dealt with far more efficiently. There's been times where I've sent in spam reports and they have been done almost instantly.

I don't really think the site needs more features, it works perfectly fine as it is now. Other sites may be more advanced but at end of the day you need to remember this is just a forum and it facilitates all the things you need to trade or just be part of the community perfectly well. You don't need fancy new add on's and features to create a good trading ethos or a decent community. What you need is the right people, and here at Sythe I believe we have that. The staff do a good job at moderating and I for one enjoy the community enough to not need any new gadgets to play around with to 'enhance the site.'

I'm not aiming this at anyone in particular by the way, it's just my opinion. I believe that since I joined Sythe it is better now than it has ever been in my short presence.

That is a point actually.. the server is already a bit unstable, having core features disabled, add-ons and plugins will only increase the problem.

And everyone complained heavily when the site was unstable, I myself like you would rather have a stable and working site with good up time as opposed to a flashy site with lots of add-ons. There's really no point, the site does what it aims to do well in my opinion.

People are trying to compare us to sites such as powerbot, you need to be realistic people are only there for the client. The community is terrible, it only has all these new add ons because the site lacks on the community aspect of things and therefore needs to make up for it. All you need to do is look at RsBuddy, once a very popular site and once it took away it's client it died. All these sites are the same. Sythe is unique and you can't compare them to one another.

Powerbot users are there for a bot, and Sythe users are here for a market. So what's your point? We have an exponential amount of room to grow considering we've really only grown our Runescape market. Sythe isn't the biggest it can be, far from it I'd say, so why shouldn't we be trying to expand? If people can go to powerbot for a bot, then people can come to sythe for the market.

Also, we seem to have stability problems no matter what is going on, so whether it's caused by the new problem of the week, or a new plugin, does it matter? That's one thing I've learned about sythe, shit happens to the servers no matter what, but we shouldn't use that as an excuse for other things. If a plugin or add-on is going to help the site then we shouldn't not use it due to the fact that it may cause server issues, and again I go back to my point that maybe finding some new tech experts, or even hiring someone would be beneficial in cases like that.

If other people have flashy nice sites and lots of add-ons and still remain functional then that proves that we are doing something wrong. It has become what is the next excuse we can use to stay the same. I mean we can stay mediocre and slowly just fade out if we want, but that is what Sythe has become. 'We're good enough.' instead of 'What can make us better?' Why do we have to be just good enough and settle for what we have? Why can't we make a better site - improve functionality and appearances. Attract new people and build stronger and larger markets. Why do we have to be a Runescape Market? Why can't we be as our slogan proclaims The Craigslist of Virtual Goods? This is the attempt that x339 is making with these suggestions. The community has stagnated to a few loyal members that make up the 'community' and the rest of people are leechers that come and go day in and day out. We have to have a catch to make people stay. We have to build larger marketbase and a better community aspect, because you are right in the fact that Sythe is unique. We have a close knit group of awesome community members who truly care for the well being of the site, but we've all become complacent with what Sythe is.

I wouldn't say that everyone here is at Sythe only for the market. I myself being one of those individuals, not everyone actively trades. I'm here because I enjoy posting and browsing these forums and interacting with the people I meet here. That's my point. We are distinguished from places like Powerbot where people are there for something other than the community. I'm not arguing that we don't have room for growth, I don't think anyone is, what I am arguing is that I don't think the things you have outlined are the way which this can be achieved. Adding new and fancy plugins or updating the version of the boards may bring in a few new members yes but the superficial face of Sythe isn't more important than the core community and staff like I've highlighted. Maybe the way we can improve growth is through further improving the community? Individual users like you or myself actively trying to make a difference, as opposed to creating a thread of the things you don't like and telling admins that you want them to change things. If the owners and admins genuinely were not happy with how the site is running or generating income do you not think they would be the first to change things? They have probably already thought of every idea you have outlined and haven't implemented it for real reasons, not just because they don't want to.
Like it's already been stated, these superficial changes will have a detrimental effect on the functioning of the site. Would you prefer a flashy site with all these new add-ons which isn't actually functional or Sythe the way it is now?

You say you have stability problems no matter what, the site runs perfectly fine for me, anytime of the day I browse I never get any of the errors we used to get so I can't comment on that because it works for me. I don't think anyone is saying you don't have the best intentions x339 but the ideas which you are trying to promote have probably already been brought up by the powers that be, and haven't been used for one reason or another.

I was going to reply to you, but Emperor_Nero has summed up pretty much everything I would have said to you

However I would also like to add that if you don't think I am doing the right things to make change, then I implore you to do something about it as well. I am not the only one who can or should do this, and if you think there are other ways then I'd really hope you'd go about them instead of spending that time criticizing what I am trying to do.

I'm not criticizing what you are saying x339, don't take it personally. Surely you posted this thread because you wanted to encourage and actively seek out other people's opinions regarding the situation on Sythe, I can sense some anger in your reply to me, I'm not aiming anything personally at you, only trying to create a healthy discussion. All I'm simply doing is stating my opinion on it, with respect to what you have said. If you had read anything I've said then you would have probably grasped that I don't think Sythe needs much changed apart from a shift in helping out the community, and I try to do that every time I post. I only post on this forum is I genuinely feel that what I'm saying will help, or my input has some value, I don't just write things for post count and that's how I believe I can help the site apart from donating and sending in scam/spam reports.

That is a respectable outlook on things, but I personally do not believe that we will accomplish things by simply continuing to post as we always do. I feel that much more than that needs to be done, and it's fine if you disagree with that, but I am going to continue to do what I feel to be the best option.
