Not sure if this should go here or in Something for All, but whatever. Anyways:

What are your thoughts on swearing? Do you do it all the time, or save it for those choice occasions? Are you offended when others do it? If you do swear, why?

Personally, I don't swear (at least around others), but I'm not really offended by it. No reason to get upset over what other people say. If someone swears excessively, however, my opinion of them goes way down. I figure if they feel the need for attention, and can't figure out a better way, then I'm not interested in wasting my time with them. In my opinion, if they think it makes them look cool or mature, they're wrong; instead they look unimaginative and immature.

Agree, Disagree, other comments or perspectives or ideas?

I don't mind people who swear, but like you, my opinion of people who swear frequently really decreases.

As for myself, I do swear but just not very often and when I do it's only around friends.

I used to cuss like it was nothing. I stopped, I haven't used a severe word for almost 2 years.

I swear when I'm with my friends, but not at all when I'm at work or with respectable people or younger kids. It's also been proven that swearing reduces the intensity of pain (thanks mythbusters) so it's sometimes necessary/involuntary for me

I swear where it's appropriate (around friends, but not in front of family or young children/older people) but not in excess. I only really do it when there is a need. For instance, when I'm sailing and the people I'm with are screwing up and making my life hard I'll swear because it makes them do stuff faster, but I don't just drop it into conversation for no reason.

Definitely depends on who I'm around, though even then, I control how often I swear, and to how I'm saying. I'm not the type of person who every other word they say is "shit" or "fuck".

I swear, quite a bit in comparison. So what?

I don't swear infront of strangers however, only kids at school.

To be honest, I'm a bit surprised at the responses. I had expected more people to swear often. It's interesting how few of you actually do.

I guess I do it with friends or online if that counts. I never do it in front of my parents unless its a lesser word such as damn.

People who swear to much annoy me, especially girls who swear too much; It makes them less attractive.

I grew up around it. Mostly on my moms side of the family though. They all usually sat around a drank beer, smoke cigarettes, and told dumb stories when they were drunk. It really depends on where I'm at. If I'm around people that don't swear, I don't. But, if I'm with people who use it, the words wander their way into my vocabulary.

I've always found swearing as a way of showing that you have a small vocabulary. That you have nothing better to say so you say words like that.

However when I'm upset / angry I do tend to swear a lot.

I swear when I'm around my friends and in public sometimes, but not around my family.
