Therein lies my point, and the issue with the rule you/others have cited, though. It sounds nice on paper, but in practice, is worthless. It's pure virtue signaling.


Yeah, I agree and understand that staff serve the role of mediator versus police. Plus, it's asinine to assume staff could actively police that rule enough to make it valuable. I've made my stance very clear in the past that I am for free market, less oversight / rules, more education, etc. However, FWIW, when the rule you're quoting was approved, the following language was used:

I see alot of staff having to explain the rules to people. Maybe instead of expecting people to understand these strange and un-intuitive rules, we should just scrap the whole thing.

Thats the problem. When everyone is auto bumping and the community is dead, there is nobody left to police each other. You guys want to let the bots run the marketplace and then also want to act surprised nobody stuck around to police that crap. Nobodys even here, everybodys a bot now.

 

A prime example of one of the reasons why auto bumpers should be removed.

FuryPVM is a $300 donator and is clearly auto bumping his thread (bumps every 4 hours, religiously). User Adam Melo is bumping FuryPVM's thread, for whatever reason. FuryPVM sees the bumps because he has "liked" them. However, he did not pause his auto bumper to prevent breaking of the four hour bump ruling.

I found this by pure happen stance and I would imagine 99% of these scenarios go unnoticed. Given another day or two, this would have been buried in his 43 pages of bumps.

 

Doesn't seem like it's doing much with all these popping up though :3, seems a big % is miss using it.

 

I am in favor of banning auto bumping as a whole. It looks like it is ruining the community. It’s been a long time since I’ve last been here and the number of bots have very much increased. Also not surprising considering auto bumping is a donation perk now.

In the past bumping was limited to once per 8 hours. Some people were using auto bumpers, but the community kept an eye on them as there weren’t too many. I don’t remember bots as an issue back then. Now it obviously is.

Best way to get people back on Sythe would be to ban it as a whole imo. I know people might have donated for it but perks aren’t bought. It’s still a donation and perks are subject to change.

Basically up to @Sythe to decide what’s more important. A viable community or short-term profits

 

I agree with this. I hate when I add the first 2-3 threads and no ones online…

 

Another reason auto bumpers should be disallowed:

The first few things most newcomers (and even established users) naturally look at to establish whether a seller is trustworthy are:

- # of vouches
- Donator status
- # post count

Sythe does not enforce quality of vouches, nor should they. As we’ve seen time and time again, it’s very easy to amass low quality vouches.

By donating $300 and spending a few weeks auto bumping threads, a scammer can appear very trustworthy.

 

its my second amendment to have an auto bumper and you cant take it away.

 

Programatic thread bumping is inevitable, it can't be legislated without extreme measures like having gold sellers select a time-zone, restricting total posts on market, etc.

 

Support, ive made a thread before it got closed.
But since everyone keeps making the same threads, about time staff may notice that this is what we want

Auto bumpers are trash and they ruin the customer experience of sythe.
Sure its better for ur precious discord servers and businesses, in the long run, cause any traction is good right.

But its shit for customers coming to Sythe and realising the top 10 people on the first page are AFK, or out of stock
If I was a newcomer in Sythe id fuck off and take my money somewhere else due to really boring and tedious process of finding gold to buy.

The sad thing is, lets say the rules are changed. Some people may expect the changes to be instant when in reality it will be a slow rebuild of people realizing that the currently listed threads are up to date and have responsive owners.

 

I do agree with this, as others have said it causes issues when actually joining someone’s discord they’re bumping and finding that no one is available.
Should only allow for manual bumping which would clean up who’s active and who’s not

 

To further the point even more, I messaged 8 people in the fire cape services section who had bumped their thread within the last 2 hours. After 48 hours, only one responded.

 

No shot this thread is still open lol. Auto bumping will not be discontinued. Can y’all shut up already?

 

You having as much post count as you do, but 99% of it being bumped posts really encapsulates the problem here. The solution lies in removing bumped posts counting as post count. I see no difference between spam forum posts and bumped posts.

 

This suggestion, in my honest opinion, would kill the site even more. I don't think it's the best interest of the site to implement this. It's more the internet neonazis that feel the need to keep hall monitoring to make sure any user in the market is sitting with ass sweat in their computer chair ready to answer in less than 30 seconds.
