[Denied] On-Site Trading Only

The whole discord for convenience thing kinda makes sythe as a platform for trading useless. Sythe should be the place where everything takes place for evidence and to reduce the chances of a scam by adding less steps to a trade. You join a person with $1000 donated's discord and try to get a MM done and then you just get a random staff member they have in their discord telling you they can do it without knowing ANYTHING about them and it can just be an alt discord of the owner actually scamming in order to make money and then just "banning" that person who never existed in the first place. You have no idea who that person is if it is a real person and what the biggest trade they have done was or what they are capped with. This combined with these major buyers not offering on threads selling gp that dont accept their currency even though its way cheaper probably because of stolen crypto funds makes everything on this site more sus by the day.

 

Few things

- If you have any concerns about the person you're talking to not being the person who you think you're talking to (imposter, discord account compromised, etc), why not just ask them to message you directly on Sythe? If they are legitimate, they will almost never refuse to do so (red flag otherwise).

- Discord as a platform beats out Sythe in real time communication, which is where the root of the issue stems from. You're able to juggle and multitask using discord using supplemental ticket systems for auditing, multi chat, and so forth. Sythe would need to roll out their own solutions that offer similar things, otherwise you're just inconveniencing people at that point.

- The idea of Sythe as a forum is that it should remain a source of truth for trading and a supplemental source of confirming who you're speaking with. What i'd like to see done better is making it easier to lookup known scammers, because I've seen a trend of the same kinds of imposters / scammers continue to scam people over and over, and discounting the fact that there are always going to be silly people who will fall for these types of scams, I also think that there is poor execution from the Sythe side on making it more obvious on who to avoid.

 

Agreeing with the above statement by Super.. You’re not obligated to utilize a person you don’t trust. I get you’d want to get the deal done ASAP but sometimes patience pays off more.

j2s pointed out something though about scammer list being more easier to track down / use. I agree with this because sometimes the search bar shows no / shitty results. It’s no help in the long run and tbh could probably help dodge a lot of problems. I’ve always said that the reporting section might be better towards the top of the forum. Sythe kind of needs a refreshed look on its own. I think insite tabs would do this community wonders.

 

You don't need a scammer list if you keep things on the site and hold people accountable...

 

If you're following a direct link posted from the users profile on Sythe or a direct PM from them to a discord server, then anything that happens in that server they are held accountable for.

Just never follow a link to any server that isn't directly linked by a Sythe account that you trust. As also mentioned above, it is far too easy to request a Sythe PM from someone. If they say no, wait until they can send one.

The Sythe PM system is that of a forum, not a messenger app like Discord. For quickly speaking to people it just doesn't offer the same convenience. I honestly think that Sythe are doing pretty much everything they can to stop stuff like this from happening.

 

It just seems like unnecessary extra steps. If someone wants to really buy or sell something they would be on the site scrolling dedicated. The few seconds between messages you save on Discord isn't worth the heightened risk.

Either way, Hell no. - You're free to use whoever you want on Sythe to trade with, it's a personal preference to not trade via discord or to find a MM that suites your needs.

So because you've seen someone on Sythe who is a $200 Donor and a few vouches that means you "know" them they're still someone behind a screen who you don't know?... Either way if you follow protocols and request a Sythe PM before trading then the discord owner would be responsible, it's not hard to request a Sythe PM and if someone refuses/stalls you just don't proceed or you wait until it's been recieved?

Lets be honest, there's a risk no matter what you do, this is a forum that mainly trades DIGITAL Goods, it's a risk you take when entering into an agreement with this market, it literally takes a moment to grab a UID and request a Sythe PM, it's not the job of sythe to baby sit people, there are more than enough pinned posts/threads advising people how to trade safely - Ultimately there is always a risk when it comes to this market.

 

We’re still holding people accountable but there’s only so much you can do through the internet; basically nothing. Making the site entirely trade-only only encourages more ban evading and I’m not interested in having another full time job, I already wasted enough time on here as is.

There are other forums such as EpicNPC and Hackforums who I believe mainly allow on-site trading.

 

Other forums do this by not allowing any outside links to discord/skype/website, and it kills site retention when another site is available even with a chat option. (MPGH forums im looking at you.)

This would also force people to make accounts which alone gets people to just leave the site. What would end up happening is less people would use sythe, and discord servers would reign supreme and no new people into the market would know what servers are safe to use.
