Further Changes to the Accounts Market

In 2019 we released recovery responsibility for all account sales prior to June 19th, 2017 to account for the implementation of the ToS system, as well as due to the instability of Jagex's own recovery system. Previously, any account seller who did not have their customer agree to a warranty period would maintain recovery responsibility forever.

After a suggestion and some staff discussion we have decided that we will be releasing seller recovery responsibility for accounts after two years have passed since the sale, unless a different warranty duration was agreed upon. This change will apply retroactively as well. Note that this does NOT give sellers/OOs permission to recover accounts that they have sold. This change impacts a very small number of accounts, as most sales are not likely to last two full years, and is thus aimed more towards reputable users.

As with other markets on the site, we encourage users to mutually agree to a ToS. As a reminder, ToS in the accounts market is subject to the following rules:

• Anyone who wishes to sell an account must maintain "recovery responsibility" (they must refund their buyer if the account is recovered or becomes locked and they are unable to unlock it) for at least a month after the sale.
• No one can sell an account and claim 0 responsibility for recoveries! 1 month is the minimum liability they must agree to.
• IF YOU ARE AN ACCOUNT SELLER AND YOU DO NOT SPECIFICALLY MENTION YOUR RECOVERY RESPONSIBILITY IN YOUR TOS, BY DEFAULT YOU HAVE RECOVERY RESPONSIBILITY FOR TWO YEARS AFTER THE SALE!
