[DENIED]MOTM Questionnaire

Hello, I hope everyone is staying happy and healthy during these unprecedented times.

MOTM = Member of the Month

"MOTM Questionnaire" what exactly is it? Well, the easiest way to compare it is to a post-game interview of any sporting event. Your favorite athlete plays their heart out during a hard-fought game. They end up scoring that last point to put their team up against their opponent with final seconds to spare. Their last point was the reason they won the game. Does the athlete go back into the locker room, change, and go home? No, there is a post-game interview. The interviewee is asked many questions, what their thoughts were, what they thought about the game, how they scored that final point. It gives the audience a sense of what the athlete was thinking, and a little background of how they play their part.

Back to the MOTM questionnaire. Just as the athlete played an essential role during the game, Sythe MOTM's play an important role, and do something extraordinary so that members of the community will vote for them. So, why isn't there an interview for the MOTM?

When the final MOTM thread is posted, there are several testimonials of why they chose an individual for MOTM, but that's it. We do not hear from the MOTM themselves. We are not able to read what they think about being MOTM and the work that led them to become MOTM. Yes, you see the testimonials of other members, but what if that's not enough? For example, our recent MOTM, @Dev Zach (congrats by the way), worked on SytheLIB and the Discord. I have no idea what that means. What exactly did he do? That is why I am suggesting having a MOTM Questionnaire.

This MOTM would also be CDT ran. The CDT member would ask the MOTM a few "serious" questions about their thoughts/what they did, but then the options are endless. The CDT member could ask funny or quirky questions. It does not have to be lengthy either, could be ten questions top. Also, the MOTM could decline the questionnaire if they REALLY wanted.

I completely support this (not because I won). I would be very interested to get to know the people who we support as being the Member of the Month. We all vote for xxx reasons, but it's more of a "I saw him doing good stuff this month."

To continue to grow this community I would love to see this implemented.

 

No support, just because you do not know what SytheLib and Discord means does not mean there should be a Q&A with the MOTM winner. I have nothing against having CDT give some more actual feedback on why we picked user X as member of the month, but it can't be compared to a sporting event as you compared it with. We already have the bi-monthly questions and those are already cringe-worthy enough. The majority of the people respond in a non-serious manner anyways. I once proposed to have some actual serious questions asked for the bi-monthly, so that instead of the usual "What's your favorite food?" questions we'd ask something like "How are you holding up during those corona-times?" but that was also denied as nobody is waiting for all of this serious bullshit. People come here to chill, to flame each other out, to waste their money so eventually they can scam their way out - it's not a job interview.

 

Well, ideally I believe that’s what the “Winner” thread is for. You don’t have to always congratulate members on winning but can question them. Such as “what is Sythe lib?” And wait for their reply.

I would be for maybe having the winner giving a few words, for example:

“Yes, my work with SytheLib is best for the site because insert) and (insert). I’m glad I was recognized for (insert) and will continue to work hard (insert)”

But of course that would be optional.

I also am for support on this one. I think it's a solid idea.

 

Support the idea on the condition that the concept is well-thought-out. There should be practical reasons to invest time and energy into this. This also means that the concept should aim at maintaining this practice for a longer period; if the Q&A will be neglected after a couple of months, then rather not.

 

I believe this suggestion would be more appropriate here, as this section is generally for suggestions regarding the forum as a whole. That being said, I agree with the premise of your suggestion, but I think we should forego a Q&A. There's only so much that can be said, and I don't want it to be forced. One thing that could be beneficial, and @MAGZ mentioned this, is giving the MOTM an avenue in their announcement thread to discuss their accomplishments for the last month, what they will be working towards for the future, etc. I think including a paragraph or so from the MOTM in the announcement thread could be very beneficial to the whole process. It can show the community that the selection process isn't arbitrary, gives other users some inspiration to get involved, etc.

Im not against asking the MOTM to give us a statement on it, but at they same time we shouldn’t force them to make a statement and only ask as a courtesy for if some people just wana say thanks or let us know how they feel about it in general.

 

Basically this, all and all it's a great idea that I'd love to help implement. I think if we keep a general rule of thumb that we can ask the winner if we can conduct a small interview to post alongside the winning announcement then this would be good.

And truthfully this is a question for CDT. If they want to implement this, that's cool, and I'll read it, but I'm not dying to know what inspired this year's 9th MOTM to greatness.
