[Denied] Disallow quotes/codes in signatures

This is according to The Official Sythe.org Rules. I've seen multiple staff members using quotes in their signatures now and after consulting them about it, it appears the rule is somehow differently interpreted. This resulted me in making this suggestion. In my opinion it's unclear when you have a rule in place that forbids exceeding a max amount of pixels, yet quotes and codes are somehow allowed (despite the mention 'quotes' in the rules).

Either way, the ruling right now is unclear and considering a rework of the forum functionality takes a million years to be changed, let's just forbid quotes and codes in people's signatures, because it only makes stuff unclear.

 

In both cases however the quote exceeds the max width. It seems extremely straightforward and obvious to me especially with the extra mention of “quotes” in the rules.

 

Instead of making it an official rule, why not just use the approach of 'common sense applies'. Those that currently have signatures exceeding the above due to quotes, just ask them to amend their signatures. I doubt this is a common occurrence, that it warrants an official rule.

 

The rule is already in place imo however it appears that staff interprets it differently. This suggestion is clear out any doubt in regards to the ruling and make it an actual rule. If this indeed is already a rule and staff is showing the wrong example; then using common sense is not enough it seems. If this is not a ruling yet, I don't see how common sense could make this ruling any clearer, because at it's current state it's not clear.

 

I'm a bit confused, as you say it's already an official rule, yet also say it needs to be made an actual rule? Then you're questioning if it is even a rule, by asking, '...if this is indeed...', and finally you ask the question again if it is even a rule by saying, 'if this is not a ruling yet.'.

Correct me if I'm wrong, what I presume you're trying to say is that, this rule already exists, but is rarely enforced or followed, and thus there needs to be a bit more scrutiny around it?

 

I think @BlackBlasses's post explains how we want to approach these issues. The quote functionality is bad and doesn't stop at the width of the quote, but I'm not sure we should hold this against users as long as the text in the quote complies with the rules.
