[Denied] Require original owner to be specified in account sale topics

Since the problem of reselling accounts bought from unsafe sources doesn't seem to go away any time soon I'm suggesting new rule regarding account sales "Sellers must specify the original owner of the account in their market threads"

Pros:

• Buyers can do their own research if the original owner can be trusted

• Resellers will have more trouble selling accounts with 20x margin using their reputation to deceive the buyer about the safety of such account

• Slightly helps educate clueless buyers about account safety

 

And if the OO isn't a sythe user?

 

If this suggestion was implemented, a user would probably just state "unknown OO," or "non-Sythe OO" in the sales thread, which in itself provides information to a prospective buyer. I don't go near account sales, but if I did, I would be far more hesitant buying an account with an unknown/non-Sythe OO knowing the probability of an account recovery is presumably a lot higher. Account sales are inherently risky, but if this suggestion was implemented, and we emphasized the good trading practice of knowing how the OO is involved with the recovery process, I could see it deter some scams.

 

Then it should say "Non sythe OO"/"Random OO"/ or something like that

I agree. Sythe already does a job at covering this but I think it should be a bit sharper. The group that is specifically 'protected' under your model is the group that would not have traded, but would be lulled into a trade in the current model.

 

I mean, I like it. However, I will go to say this will kill account reselling most likely.

EDIT: I am on PC now and reading this and realized I misread. I agree, stating the specific owner is a good idea. Anything to assist the community in trading / buying / selling safer is great.

This ruling doesn't stop people from selling unsafe accounts but it makes people completely aware of who has the ultimate recovery potential.

Slightly iffy on this. Correct me if im wrong but;In a way stating the OO can give a false sense of security. OO's only have liability to help recover unlock/recover for a certain period to my understanding and only as specified in their TOS at sale. Therefor once said period is over so too is their liability no?

 

Fully support this. I got scammed for over 600usd where the seller didn't say anything about not being OO until the account got recovered. Even if the buyer gets compensated for the money, they won't get back the invested time and gold on the account. Rather than having buyers specifically ask about OO and whatnot, make it mandatory for the resellers to mention it instead.

 

Support, a high % of the scam reports are related to Runescape Accounts... I hope this could help to reduce any scams or help users to make smarter decisions.

 

I support the sentiment of the original suggestion, but this ^ is my concern.

We could ask people to post the entire ownership chain, but that will get messy (e.g. What happens if the 6th owner of an account thinks the 2nd owner was the OO and lists it as such? Does he get TWC'd for false advertising?)

There is also the bigger issue that Woo pointed out that this rule needs to jive with our existing rules around liability in case something goes wrong. The OO isn't responsible for refunding you if the most recent owner recovers the account.

 

Not if there was nothing mentioned about recovery responsibility in the TOS. Then the responsibility is forever

 

It's kind of a market standard that the first owner isn't responsible anymore if the buyer decides to resell the account because the ownership chain is as safe as it's weakest link, so I feel like the buyer should be aware if some random guy on craigslist has the power to recover the account that is for sale.

If the account has passed several hands it could just be classified as an "unknown OO", as basically anyone could recover it at this point.
