[Denied] Scammers on Sythe should pay a penalty to use our "report a scammer" section

I want to point out this report here 6.000 USD Dispute with Dragon Dyce - Twistedtaco (KO)

I think that this user should rightfully be able to claim he is scammed on this site, but at the same time he has also scammed users of this site - see Dora007 Credit Card Fraud

Where there is smoke there is fire. If he's been committing credit card fraud like that I am betting that @Wortel can find like 100x more instances.

Thank heavens this guy has a gambling problem, irony is sweet - but should he really be able to use our "report a scammer" section to recoup ALL loses (after paying back his scams)?

I suggest a 25% tax on all scammers who decide to use our "report a scammer" section - after they pay their debt (assuming they win the case), 25% of what they won will go toward community repayment

It doesnt seem right to me that @Andy and @Pikachu are taking the time to read this report, decide, and enforce, while this dude is just committing credit card fraud (on this site no less, probably gold sellers also) and using Sythe when something doesnt go his way.

I agree that there should be a system in place for scammers to pay a tax AND also repay their owed debts. The ''free market'' reasoning will probably resurface in this thread but why should mods spend their time and resources to help scammers?

 

He should be charged the full amount to repay the person he scammed? Yes.
Should everyone that scammed before be charged to report another scammer? No.
Why? Because it's better to have no scammers than to have previous scammers not report them just because they would have to pay. When a scammer is reported, it helps the forum completely, the job staff does by reviewing and making decisions on the scam reports should be appreciated for what it truly is, cleaning up the community of the scum.
That being said, I would rather have one less scammer around, than seeing no report about him because the person he scammed would have to pay to report him. Maybe I misunderstood your message but I dont think this should apply to every single case / scenario.

 

One of the things I find the most enjoyable to see is scammers reporting other scammers. Now for the Dragondyce report that's something different obviously, but I have no problem if scammers report other scammers. The whole tax proposition won't be happening anyways.

 

As much as it is a good idea and it would be a nice addition, Wortel is right. "Free market" as everyone loves to say would mean that someone who is scammed even if dnt or whatever can still report whoever with no repercussions. Sad world we live in right, at least he lost money gambling

 

I understand what you're trying to say and where you're coming from, but personally I can't ever see something like this being implemented. We do take the time to look into these things to see if we can find anymore debts, but at the end of the day we can only go off of the accumulated debts we've found from the reports we were able to track (this isn't directly meant to correlate to the report as I haven't read the specifics yet, more so a general statement to the suggestion here). Otherwise if we take excess in tax for them using our report forum due to the assumption that they've scammed a bunch of other people, then we're no better than they are as we'd be taking more than what they owe (I.E. scamming them). I don't disagree that there's a possibility where there were many other scams that were undocumented, but we can't carry that stance is my main point if that makes sense.

 

A tax wouldn't be implemented. Their dispute winnings will just be paid to whom they owe debt to. This is why you should always report scammers, even if they are already banned or you think there's no way they'd pardon.

 

Having such a tax would discourage old time / past / recent scammers from reporting others that could potentially damage other members of the forum, the section is there to encourage people to report any misbehaving and adding a tax or payment required to report other rule-breakers would defeat the purpose of the section.

 

No support, for attribution reasons ("Why does staff get to decide who my tax refunds??") and fairness reasons ("If I have to repay more than I scammed I'm not repaying at all!")

i like the idea, its an incentive for DNT'd users to pay their debts, as to avoid potential antiscamming + taxation.

Stop scamming and you wont be taxed!

Tax wont stop people filing a report, if they got scammed they can still reclaim 75% of it?

What it does stop though, is people becoming DNT and still attempting to trade on sythe.

 

I'd say just take all of it, if it's a confirmed mass scammer. We all know only minority of scams make it to report section

this would discourage people from making reports and sadly no matter who they are this would more than likely lead to staff having a harder time stopping future scammers.
