What does everyone think about the Coronavirus? People are getting frantic and buying long term supplies from all the local stores.

I think its over hyped, flu kills as well at very rare cases and it spreads fast, its like another name for flu.

It's overhyped. Media finally got something to talk about for the next year.

 

You say this, but most of the top tech companies are making it mandatory to WFH for 4-6weeks at a time or more. A "flu" does not close an entire country (Italy).

 

My work place (FAANG company) is making it mandatory to WFH for 6 weeks. Italy shut down. Medical centers in USA don't even have testing kits, def something bigger than a 'flu' like most people think.

 

I work at the airport Hope they don't shut down too lol...

I agree about it being over hyped, but its better to be safe then sorry. If any of you can I would get yourself stocked up on food to be able to hold out for at least 4 months.

Super unfortunate about Italy... Italy in a way maps out the foreseen future for everywhere else. There is no real stopping this virus unless a vaccine comes around which could be years out.

All I have to say is wash your hands often. Carry some Lysol wipes or hand sanitize on you.

My thoughts:

I posted this in Something For All, but basically it won't be a global super-killer or anything nuts like that. It's another flu that's spreading rapidly basically, the danger here is it kills anyone that's immuno-compromised, got asthma, diabetes, heart conditions, smokers, etc... China has such a high death toll among the """healthy""" because their air quality is comparable to that of smoking a pack a day lol.

Vaccine for it I'd say is around 8-16 months probably. They're running the first trials now as far as I'm aware, and people are thinking HIV medication and stem cell research will help extensively in figuring out a vaccine or treatment for it. As well as transfusions from people who already recovered from it.

What annoys me the most are the panic buyers.. sure, if you could be undergoing a quarantine, you should be stocking up... for two weeks. Two weeks. Not several months. You do not need that much toilet paper wtf.

I'm personally going to get my mother to buy some hand sanitizer, wet wipes (we have some in the car but they're almost dry baby wipes lol) like lysol, and if we need cleaning equipment that too. I'm def gonna be washing my hands a lot more and will be self-punishing if I forget lmao. I tend to forget before meals.... oops

But yeah uhhh just be really really germophobic and shit and you should be fine.

Really sucks though because another issue is the economy, China's air quality IS getting better because of this coronavirus and it's a real good thing the air's clearing but damn I wish it had been from hard work and environmental care instead of "hehe me sick XDd"

Canada's dollar is at the worst its been in like... almost 20 years? It's at 1 USD = 1.40 CAD rn, which is REALLY awful if you're Canadian buying shit online but REALLY nice if you're American and stuck in Canada. Lol... but overall sucks for Canada's economy and all. Also bitcoin dropping is poop but like.. it's a good buy-in opportunity.

Suggest you look when there was a last pandemic, it was something called Spanish flu, heard of it?? ( just flu? ) killed over 20 million people

Look at the number of cases and the amount of people in the world 65 million in just england. To loose just 1 percent of the population will be a massive death toll.

I think it’s all a big scam due to the elections going on in the United States. Probably more hyped up then it’s truly worth caring about.

You cannot just compare Covid19 to the flu... If you believe it's exactly the same then I suggest you read about it and get educated. Just be smart about it and wash hands, don't touch your face, avoid close contacts, avoid going in public if you have symptoms. Some measures are insane but it's to stop the exponential growth. You only see the numbers of people getting tested right now, if you look at some graphs you can estimate what the real numbers are. Just don't stock on toilet paper

 

When the NBA came out that they will be canceling games is when I realized it isnt something to take lightly. I stocked up on at least a years worth of supplies. Luckily I already had a couple boxes of toilet paper from a couple months ago when I went shopping. So crazy that people bought out toilet paper over food.
