[APPROVED] Require this thread to be stickied in every sub-forum

Hi,

Imposter scams are by far the most damaging scam around. How? You demotivate new sellers from entering the black market from the game, you in-directly tarnish legit names by having threads in the scam section (this can be the difference from closing a sale and losing one) and it's by far the most common and active scam around.

It's also tough as a new user to understand what is exactly happening and in many situations people are so lost they probably don't even chose to make a report and just accept their loses and move on.

Originally this thread: A warning to all Discord traders
was posted in the account sections, but since the changes it has been removed.

My suggestion is to add this thread to every section on the forum and an even more extreme option would be to force every user to read this thread and accept a box upon signing up for the forum. This thread would save billions of gold annually from being scammed and would further growth with Sythe and BM activities in general.

I don't really see the negatives in not doing this, but if I'm wrong I'd love to hear them.

+Support I don’t see the harm in it. Good idea, especially for newer buyers / sellers.

 

I agree this problem needs to get more attention, but i think a better idea would be to make posting your unique id in market topics mandatory. It's a pain to see that you can still come by people that are considered "trusted" in the market that haven't done this.

 

I don't disagree but I think a lot of new users disregard the UID portion sometimes when trading. They see discord, they add them and thats that.

I just think the issue of confirming UID needs more awareness in general.

Well this would also be a good way to raise awareness, as new people would be asked to post theirs, which would make them learn about it.

 

Can’t you add people using a unique ID as opposed to a discord tag? Maybe disallowing discord tags to be advertised and requiring only Unique IDs be posted

 

I tried adding by unique ID, it’s not a feature. I’m sure in the future it’ll be implemented.

 

I feel like we're better off creating one clear, concise sticky called "How to trade safely on Sythe.org" and posting it in every forum. It would cover:
-How to find potential trading partners (how to post threads and navigate the forum, what different ranks mean [donor amount != trustworthiness]/how to assess vouches)
-How to conduct a trade (how to add users on discord safely [your suggestion], how to agree to terms beforehand, how to get a middleman if trust is an issue)
-How/where to leave a vouch
-How to file a scam report if things go wrong

And maybe some other stuff. This should be part of it, but as is, there are too many stickies that I worry this will get buried. Ideally, I think this could be linked on top of the homepage alongside the rules and/or get shown to all new users the first time they access Sythe.

My only current issue with it is that this only applies to the Runescape trading sections (only RS/none of the other trading sections for other games), and I'm unsure as to why that is because it can be applied to every single trading section and would be more useful if applied in that way.

 

I agree and think its a great suggestion. Almost got imposter scammed when I had just joined and I see way too many threads in report a scammer section with imposter scams. If it only helps 1 person, it will already have been worth it!

 

Yeah that's more or less what I meant. If we aren't going to allow it to be clicked and noticed on every sign up then it needs to be hyperlinked like above on every sub-forum imo..

 

This exists in all the runescape market sections, including the very quiet ones like deadman. The announcement already exists in all welcome messages that new users receive via PM (we updated this a few months ago). The public announcement/warning existed in the old account sections but because we replaced them with new ones they were all removed. We have to manually add them back which we will do immediately.

As well as this, we'll be adding it in to all other market sections.
