I've had a couple of beers, had a great time playing some oldschool games but now it's about time I'm making this thread which hopefully doesn't immediately get shut down for some kind of reason.

As you all might know I've been demoted on Mar 21, 2019 for this reason:

From then till now I haven't completely abandoned Sythe as you could tell by the Report A Ban Evader section, though I have had the necessary time to realise I was undervalued here therefore I went on searching for other multi-gaming communities (aside of my own) and I've gotten into CS:GO more from then. I still am playing this game at this moment with an too expensive inventory which I plan on selling asap to use for a new computer. I've spent alot of time aswell in this other community but interests change; the majority went on playing WoW Classic which isn't completely the game made for me to play long-term. The new Call of Duty Modern Warfare seems to be however, if I get more people to play it with.

Either way, that's not what's this about. Referring back to the reasons above given to me by Shin we all know the majority of this is true. We all know I was probably one of the most active staff members at the time, aswell as the one who was the most emotional. It stresses me out though when you're expected to do stuff on a forum other users were allowed to slack with no activity for a long time.

I've never shared the actual chatlog between me and Shin, and probably never will unless I have his permission to but I've heard several times that I should stop letting my emotions get a hold of me, though never actually have I heard anything like " or else you'll be removed from staff " or whatever, so even though they figured a break would help, I don't as I'm certain they should have simply allowed me to learn during the way, instead of being expected to be perfect from day 1. We're all humans, we all seek for confirmation whether or not we've done something wrong or right admit it or don't, and especially I, am one of them. Some get the hint from " you're shit " while some, such as myself, actually need to be explained if and what I am doing wrong.

Regardless, this isn't so much about what I think they could have done differently - I have my very own opinion ready for that and I doubt they would adjust given any feedback - though I'm interested in what I could have done differently, or if, let's say I were ever trying to become a moderator again how can I make sure I won't have any de-ja-vu?

Probably one of the best options would be to step away from this community but I don't know, despite not feeling valued in any way as a moderator (you'll be indispensable yet a burden for the community) I do think it does fill a void. Same applies to hunting/catching ban evaders. Staff hates you to go "head-hunting" yet we can all agree it protects the market. Numerous occasions have I reported ban evaders who later on scammed someone to only figure out this could've been prevented. I guess as a long-term staff member ban evading indeed is a never ending cycle, though for the ones who are recently here or still have a fresh set of mind; even the little scams who can be prevented is war worth fighting for.

So there you have it, a 7 month break still hasn't changed me as a person, so my question here is - who was wrong and if I was in any way wrong, how could I learn myself to adjust? Because a simply demotion won't do. Neither will anything else aside of actually teaching me and giving me insight in what exactly I was doing wrong. For ban evaders it's crystal clear written in The Official Sythe.org Rules what they are doing wrong and what their punishments are, yet for me there are none. How can you expect me to change when you're not willing to actually give me any help or tips?

aside from the interpersonal aspects of your demotion within staff (since we cant really know and im sure no one will share), I think you were a great mod and a great asset to staff. I think your passion for the site is a good thing and is needed in a team. It is hard to say what you could improve on as theres no insight on exactly how you acted towards other staff behind the scenes but I do agree they should of tried working with you first before cutting you off if that is the case. hopefully someone gave you details and examples rather than just a broad list of reasons.

This thread does nothing to help your cause. Seriously, stop being so bitter, and publicly posting these threads. You got demoted, deal with it. I know you aren't complaining per se, but this rhetoric is not going to help.

Evidently you have been told why you were demoted, and the reasons (without being staff) are apparent.

Delete this thread and engage Shin or whomever else on the staff team, and work in private to resolve your issues.

Stop posting these threads, seriously.

 

TL;DR

All I know is that your great at looking for ban evaders and off site scams. I don't really know you enough to give massive feedback, but one sentence you said i will agree with.

I see some current staff members highly engaged and others that make a post once a week or only deal with a report once a week.

My advise is to just move on and maybe build a new bridge. IMO you do great with finding ban evaders and off-site scams. Maybe in the future re-apply for like a security mod or support center mod.

I appreciate all of your input everywhere and you have every right to disagree with any if not all of my actions performed on this website. Though I expect the same attitude from you. My beef is not with you, but with them. And I’m not discussing their decisions made by them here, I’m discussing their reasoning made by them here. If someone truly cares about their community, they’d listen to it. And no, I don’t expect them to apologise or change their decisions, all I’m asking here is whether or not the community agrees with their reasoning and if so or if not, why and/or what I could improve. I was granted permission by video to post this thread.

 

To preface, I have no issue with you at all. Unsure what you mean by attitude - I just think it’s redundant reaching out to the community for their input, regarding a matter that they have no relative influence or relative insight on.

Asking the community if they agree/disagree with your demotion is unequivocally redundant.

Saying you’re only discussing the ‘reasoning’, not the resolved ‘decision’ is asinine. They work in tandem, and questioning the reasoning ultimately leads to questioning their decisions.

The undertone of this post is quite evident – whether you intentionally meant for it or not, it’s clear that even though you’ve stated that you do not expect them to ‘apologise’ or ‘change their decisions’, you’re alluding to the fact that they need to, and you’re attempting to garner sympathy via this post.

Lastly, using the, ‘if they care about the community’ line, is anything but genuine, and just appears manipulative.

Look. The issue of your demotion has NOTHING to do with any of us, aside the staff involved. This is a conversation that you need to have in private with said staff members, and not every so often publicly post these lambasting threads. The fact that you keep posting similar threads/posts, just reinforces that the staff’s decision to demote you was right. Honestly dude, if you didn’t constantly post publicly about your gripe/disagreement with your demotion, and just handled this maturely, in private, with the relative staff members, you wouldn’t even be in this position.

To note, I never said you weren’t allowed to post this, I said to delete it for your own benefit.

Anyway, hopefully you’re able to resolve your issues, re, your demotion.

You have met the banality of bureaucracy and there's nothing you can do about it. You know they say that the humanity will not die through a glorious fight, but through the choking chains of the ever growing, numbing, bureaucratic society. What that means is that it's not that what you've done is inherently unintelligible, inhumane or irrational but it's just that the possible misinterpretation or even hope of a humane interpretation of your actions will never be realized due to the banal rules of the structure in power.

How about you try real life instead of seeking for validation and meaning for existence through platforms which by nature are impossible to fulfill your full sensory needs in the first place no matter what you do? Even more bizarre is to expect otherwise when you're not appreciated on the platform.

You and I have a very similar experience when it comes to moderating an online forum and getting demoted in a way where it feels like you had no warning, lost that sense of friendship, etc. To cut the story short I was demoted on another site similar to Sythe when I had a hacker target my account(s). I was immediately demoted, even though I was one of the most hard working moderators along with being personal friends with the main admins (not like it should matter). I wasn't given any time off, it was a straight demotion. I let my emotions get the better of me and somewhat did an immature spur of posting, sending emails, etc. I was very young at the time, early high-school years. I felt that I could of been warranted some time off rather than a straight demotion with my deep rooted friendship along with serving as staff twice (once resigned). There is no doubt in my mind you must have done a fantastic job as a moderator on Sythe, just from reading old threads, or looking into ban-evaders it's evident you did a lot - still do. However, discussing or looking into isn't going to do a thing, later on you might find that. I made myself look so bad to a certain admin that not only did i lose a friendship, I was never allowed to get on staff solely due to him. I legitimately had every admin's approval, yet got turned down twice because of my reaction.

It took me four years after the demotion to reflect on it and just stop looking at what the one admin did wrong; rather look at what I did wrong. That's really something only you can do as you know all the details. Sharing it with others such as myself is irrelevant. I did the exact same thing and when I saw the thread, I laughed at my own stupidity. I'm not saying you're the same or anything, you're far better than myself in that regard.

No one is perfect, just like you said. The admins most likely made a mistake, you made one as well. It's best for you not look towards the error they made or allude towards it, rather just be the bigger man and think about it as a way you can improve - it's pretty damn hard.

So the piece of advice given here is basically; don't fuss too much about it, keep your head down and focus on what I can change, rather than question what they've done wrong?

I know this is basically what everyone asks me to do, even when I was in the staff team; play your role and you'll be fine, but that's basically something I've never really lived by. Surely that has gotten me in enough troubles, even on here, but I have my own morals, my own opinion, my own thoughts and all that - I just can't understand or believe how anyone could ever distance theirselves from that. Sure, I get it, we have rules on here and we're all supposed to follow them, which the majority of us do, but atleast those rules offer us the possibility to explore ourselves and have our own identities.

I have a feeling that right now, as staff and (ex) staff and probably me as a possible applicant once again in the future (?) are all required to follow a set example and even distancing yourself a tiny bit out of it is wrong.

I get it, I'm not perfect and have made many mistakes, but by what I've heard so far is that nobody is really allowed to express theirselves. I've said this before but it's like we live in the Middle Ages here once again. Or hell, it may even be Korea where we all play our role in a society where freedom of speech is no thing. There's probably only one staff member which freely expresses himself at this moment but that's only because he's in a position where only something truely bad has to happen for him to be booted off the team, but in a position such as mine he'd probably be gone already.

Yes, I'd probably be better off in requesting this thread to be archived and surely it'll give me a bigger chance at ever becoming a staff member again should I want to, but if they can't have me for who I am then I'm afraid I'll remain in this position.

There's no shame in discussing a staff ruling, neither is it wrong to discuss what it is I or them could change. Let me jump and scream around for a bit, soon I'll grow tired of jumping around as nobody wishes to play and discuss and at that point I'll bury myself in the ground again like a brave carrot.

 

I agree with everything @SellerMan has said and this most of all. Your issue isn't that staff have acted unfairly; it's the way you're choosing to respond to their actions.

Being good at your job is different than being a good team member. The latter is far more important, both online and irl, and finding a way to exceed expectations without stepping out of line is key. Also, moderation duties are way easier now than they were five or ten years ago, so there's really no place for a standout mod that's all over the place, whereas it might have been tolerable in the past.

If I were current staff, I would never vote in favor for your re-application, no matter how useful you've been as a mod. This thread is essentially you slandering your old team and trying to garner public support in hopes that... o wait, normal users have no bearing on this situation. But I do agree that deleting this thread is your best option and did respect you as a mod - this reply is nothing personal!

There's no shame in it, but there's no value in it either. You've chosen the wrong arena to discuss this in, which is further evidence of poor judgement, which is exactly what staff were responding to when they opted to demote you.

 

That's saying basically anything and everything staff has done is in a correctly manner and everyone else is always wrong.

And why's that exactly? Isn't that basically the job of a global moderator, to be all over the forum? I was simply filling the gaps.

What you're saying there is contradictory. There's nothing personal, yet you would never vote in favor of my re-application? So basically you'd grant me a break without it being a break? And aside of that you'd be telling me I'm the one to change yet there's no room for any discussion? Why's that? How can't you welcome anyone else's opinion?

You probably don't know all the details which is something I can't blame you for, but what exactly are you trying to rescue here? My image or the website's image? Because if you're saying I'm a lost cause anyways then why would I even bother having this thread removed?

I think the reason for your demotion is their way of telling you the things you can work on.

2. Also the fact that an emotional mod who may let emotion cloud their judgement and make them act irrationally is not something i would want in a moderator. I would rather have an impartial mod who is willing to look at facts and handle it that way rather than guided by emotions, which is what seems to be the advice you were given. seen here

3. You were told what you could change so i have no idea why you are asking this.

If it is still not clear this seems to be some of the things you could work on. "letting my emotions slip in on multiple occasions, calling out staff and community members publicly, being rude, abusing my powers and broke the staff code of conduct by insubordination."

Wortel don't stop being you bro. You are under appreciated were a great asset to the team. Honestly it is their loss losing you. You seem like a good guy who only wants to help make this platform better. You can make a bigger difference helping people offline if that is what gives you joy. Don't worry about it too much. I think the point of this thread was so you can assure yourself your liked. Don't worry about what people think of you. Ask yourself and yourself only are you a good person. The answer is yes I don't know why you need to hear it so many times. Relax dude.
