Encourage sales through Skype

This one is quite touchy. I'm fairly sure the majority will be against getting rid from Discord as a whole on sales, though I do believe we should encourage Skype sales on Sythe a whole lot more. A recent incident was the one with Excelont where the user he rented from removed all messages related to the account he rented out on Discord. Though ALOT more of these reports will be coming.

Major downsides of Discord:
1. It is impossible to link one Discord ID to one user. For example you might be called Person#1111 right now, though once you remove your Discord account the Discord ID #1111 will be available for grabs to anyone. I found this out by contacting Discord after I banned several users based on Discord ID matches, which ended up not being the same person. Though, ofcourse when that someone is still called Person#1111 you can be fairly sure it's still the same person.

2. Discord messages can be deleted. There are boths you can install on your Discord server, such as Dyno, which are able to record when messages are being deleted - though when you're speaking to someone 1 on 1 this is not possible. Not as far as I'm aware atleast. This will be a major issue. We have the same ability on Skype, though it atleast notes down the message was deleted. Surprisingly that ability isn't abused that much yet in scams.

While we cannot forbid the usage of Discord, especially when we now have a Discord server, I do believe we should make users more aware of this and encourage them to use Skype more for trading. People keep asking me why I do not trade via Discord and this right here is the reason.

 

So using skype will prevent us from getting scammed out of rent money?

 

No support. If somebody intends to scam, they're still going to do it regardless of it being on Skype or Discord. So what if they can delete messages? Aren't you capable of taking a screenshot mid trade?

 

I've already spoken to Sythe at length regarding how bad Discord has damaged the forum - He doesn't agree despite many other forums suspending/punishing for using discord links/to trade.

If he doesn't acknowledge that discord is bad for the forum(He can explain his own argument) then I never see this happening.

Trades are only valid in a our official server with bots that record those messages, in official trade channels.

although it would be hard to enforce that, but its safer than nothing at all

 

When the discord got heavily censored an unofficial discord was made and users flocked, don't see suspending/punishing as being a solution. I'm with @Milotic on this, record your trades if needs be, putting restrictions/pulling users away from discord won't be beneficial.

 

It would be easy to add a group of private chat rooms capped to 2 or 3 users where previous history cant be seen once you enter that chat room, would be nice.

 

I also believe we should be encouraging people to download screenshot programs and teaching them how to screenshot in-game trades for EVERY trade rather than focusing on certain out-side sources that they use to communicate on.

We aren't here to police every trade, nor limit how users wish to trade. It's up to said users to be vigilant, and do their own due diligence. The best we can do is offer them a platform to acquire said services (Sythe), and educate them on safe trading practices, which, in it's entirety, requires said users to be vigilant and cautious in the first place.

Constant limitation, inefficient rule appointments, and intervention in the market is not healthy. Minimal market intervention has always been one reason Sythe.org pulls in users.

Edit: I agree with encouraging safe trading practices, but not if it's at the extent of barring peoples own choice of trading platform (i.e discord), alongside forcing people to view a safe trading guide. Shoving things in people's face is a bad idea.

 

Maybe a rework of safe trading stickies could be updated with this kind of information? Personally I don't like using skype, although I wouldn't refuse to use it if I trust the person I'd be speaking to on it.

This is a very good suggestion, hopefully it can get implemented.

How about a screen recorder that covers both the discord chat + in-game footage side to side? This could also be able to be used as proof of deleting messages.

 

We could get a chatroom or something that's built into the site, such as Chat 2 by Siropu, although I think it could be a logistical nightmare. With a native chatroom, messages would be secure, but webserver load would be increased.
To be honest, I don't think there will ever be a fix to the issues caused by both discord and sythe, but people should really just be more cautious and record/screenshot everything. Anyway, you have my support I guess.

 

We have had sythe chat for a while but it wasnt quite the success many were hoping for iirc

 

I'm not sure did you mean that, but I have heard that skype has been fixed that u can't get ip anymore from there.

 

How long ago? Probably wasn't around for it. Might be different now, but maybe not. If It wasn't a success then, might not be now.

It was dead. There was only a handful of messages every day, we had a record 9 people in it once and only once

 

I think you can delete Skype messages without a trace now with the new updates? Can anyone else confirm or disprove? I haven't used Skype in a while, but last time I went on Skype, someone deleted their message without a trace. Testing with my own message produced the same result. It's possible that after a period of time it leaves the deleted message, though.

 

You're a global. Aren't you allowed to add to stickies relevant safe trading information like this? Not quite sure why this is a suggestion. Just add it.
