What is the Safe PM procedure? (irrate paragraph inside)

I got recently hit with a TWC, due to an imposter to my Skype (uses a very similar name).

Ultimately, my previous method of confirming that it was me speaking to somebody on skype was to message them on Sythe a random number (e.g. 654321, as was the case on the TWC thread) and telling them I will message them that in Skype. This (I thought) would create an obvious confirmation it was me messaging them.

For whatever reason, this seems to have failed. There are plenty of explanations (besides the obvious "I am also the imposter"), such as the imposter messaging me on a separate account to get me to reply to a confirmation thread, and then passing on the number I sent him in Skype to the victim.

In any case, is there a safe procedure for confirming that it is me on another messaging client, that is difficult to exploit? Because being hit with a TWC just plain sucks given that I (from my end) haven't done anything shady to deserve it.

Yes those are proper PM formats. You should always use those formats to clear up any confusion as a horrible PM could easily lead to someone being scammed by an impostor, and ultimately leave you with a TWC for poor trading practices. There are many instances of this occurring, but yes please follow the guidelines above to avoid running into this issue. This was an obvious bait attempt. @sj709 called and said that you apparently scammed a user and that live:taescwoody_1 was you and the guy the impostor scammed claimed you confirmed you were live:taescwoody_1 over discord. That user who got scammed got banned due to @Island under the impression it was a hacked account.

Because of these scam accusations I asked Sj709 if I should bait you by seeing if you would send a shady PM. The impostor asked me to PM you through Sythe to confirm you are the real one. I'm not an average Sythe user however I put myself into the average Sythe users shoe.

The correct PM procedure should confirm your Skype, a part of the Skype chat as well as the user you are talking to AT THE VERY MINIMUM. Additionally be sure to confirm the trade as well if you want to be extra safe.

This had to be done. These days there are too many scammers on Sythe and to clear up whose legitimate from whose shady, the first step in doing so is testing the PM procedure.

Next time, ensure that this doesn't happen again. I've seen 1000+ reports of people being scammed by impostors due to shady PM's not to mention I've also been scammed by even the most trusted of people.

 

I have no issue with the bait. Just was understandably confused on how the system I came up with (I didn't know we had a standardised format, I had never used the formats mentioned in this thread) failed like it did (I do now, obviously).

Will use the format as shown, now. And will see about creating direct Skype & Discord links, too.
