1st GOP Debate of 2016 Recap

Did anyone watch it? What did you think?

 

Watched it, waste of time. The candidates would just shovel misinformation on each other, and dodge any meaningful criticism by completely skipping it and plowing right into their campaign rhetoric or slashing at another opponent.

 

I watched it and had a laugh a few times on just how inaccurate some of the BS spewed was. It was clear that Donald Trump won the debate; he tossed around all of the other candidates like babies. When he slapped Ted Cruz in the face with his 9/11 come back, I actually felt bad for Cruz. Cruz had an excellent chance of being the debate's winner, but I feel that 9/11 comeback alone was enough to make Cruz drop a few points. Also, it's time for Jeb to pack up and go home, but that's been clear for a while.

 

It was a clever, and apparently very effective bait and switch.

 

Also -- probably the most interesting thing I saw on stage was Trump openly admitting to only attacking Cruz with the birth issue because Cruz is gaining in the polls. As the Constitution is written, Cruz can't run for the office. But, since when does the government ever follow the Constitution? The fact that Cruz didn't come out with an immediate answer during the debate means they are still trying to come up with an answer, or pull strings. Worst case, Cruz will get appointed to a comfy position regardless.

 

I didn't watch the debate, I watched Rand Paul's town hall. He was the obvious winner of the night.

 

How the hell is he getting funded if he won't even get the top spot? Can he still get VP or secretary of state or something?

 

Ngl I thought the title was referring to a debate about the Great Orb Project minigame, now I'm slightly disappointed.

 

Joshan corrected me on the terminology of what it means to be "Natural born" according to the constitution. I can't imagine that he would ever actually be disqualified even if he didn't actually fit the constitutional description anyway..

Trump will not win, I don't know about the rest of the republicans!!!

 

Trump doesn't lie about his reasoning behind anything - This is his campaigning. To make everyone believe he wouldn't lie to us. I support Trump personally, but that's bullshit, he's just as much of a liar as Bush or Obama.

The issue about who can run for president based on the constitution is actually not fully understood by anyone. Half believe that anyone whose born a citizen of the USA, no matter where their birth took place, is able to run for president. The other half believe that they have to be born IN the USA AND be born a citizen. But the actual words are that they must be a "natural born" citizen. Supposedly a texas lawyer has filed a federal law suit against cruz for attempting to run - If that's true, the outcome will come down to whose on the jury, the 50% that think "natural born" means born a citzen or the 50% that believe it means born IN the usa.

The aligation that he wasn't a US citizen until 15 years ago is not true, his parents were US citizens living in Canada doing some type of work, therefore, legally, he IS a citizen of the USA and has been since birth.

I personally believe the people working in the Hawaii w/e office, that say there is no record of Obama's birth there.. However, from what I understand, his parents were US citizens doing some type of work in Kenya when he was born... Meaning he was a legal citizen of the USA since birth, but born in Kenya... If that's okay for Obama, it should be okay for Cruz - I personally have no stand point at all on which definition of "natural born" is used for ability to run. But LEGALLY any child born to parents who are USA citizens are born as a USA citizen legally, however, their ability to run for presidency, like I said, is undecided and argued about constantly... I personally don't give 2 shits if they're allowed to run or not.

I support trump simply because I like a lot of what he says he'll do... People think it's a big deal to put a temp. ban on muslims, but we did the same thing to Japanese during WWII, and it very well may have saved a lot of lives then, it very well may save a lot of lives now.

My belief on that specific issue: It's not racist, it's not permanent. Muslims living here won't be affected (or so they say) and as soon as the radical muslim issue (ISIS) is taken care of, they're free to come and go as they were beforehand, as long as it's legally.




Now, my belief on all of it together? I'm a conspiracy theorist... I DON'T believe EVERY conspiracy... But I do believe that our government is controlled - No matter who wins, someone else will make the calls and the president and congress will continue to do as they're told, even Mr. Takes-Orders-From-None Trump. Or else, they'd just end up like JFK (who I believe was the last "real" president, all since have been puppets)


And even if the above isn't true, maybe the president really is running shit... They're all liars, and not a single one of em, Trump, Sanders, or any of the others, will do much of what they claim they'll do... I bet roughly 10% of what they say they'll do if they win will actually be done.

 

As a Canadian, I follow America's political system more than my own countries.

Personally I'm a fan of Sanders, Although some of his actions go to the extreme he is against what is going to turn the world on its head, big companies.

But this thread is about the Republican debate.

Yeah not much to say there in my opinion, the fact that trump is a front runner tells me enough.

 

Why is this like the copy/paste response for virtually every site I ever visit.

Anyone care to elaborate on this very very vague statement that's the norm?

Me personally, it felt quite similar to others (late to the party on my part here), nothing really new.

Trump is going to be the next President, I think people need to come to terms with that, unless something drastic happens within the next couple months. However, as we have seen with the media attempting to bring him down with the mountain of propaganda. Ex: "omg he's going to make Muslims carry ID's!" Such as the last thread on this topic, yet when I asked certain individuals to quote the exact words no one would.

If we're voting for people based on what they're promoting, i'd vote for Cruz, ideally Rand Paul, mostly because I think they understand better than Trump how out of control our government is, most of all Rand Paul.

Unfortunately, people tend to vote based on popularity. Paul doesn't stand a chance, which is quite unfortunate, and it'd be nothing short of a miracle of Cruz actually comes out ahead in the end.

 

I think the only way that Trump will win is if the Dems commit to propping up Hillary for the election. Hillary is such an easy target because of her long history of corruption and horrible record. Trump might lose to Bernie unless he is really successful at smearing him, just because it's easier to smear someone like Hillary than to teach voters economics & show how Bernie would be a fucking disaster. The electoral college system might be too warped for Trump to win anyway, since the Dems have so many votes locked down from urban areas.

It really is absurd that claims that Trump is racist, etc go completely unchallenged, when they are completely false.

It is disappointed that Paul's message has been completely shut out. Hopefully he can make it into the next debate.
