Ohio to vote on Medical and Legal pot

Not sure if right section so move if so, but what are peoples thoughts on this? They go to the poll booths on tuesday to vote.

The vote will be to pass BOTH Medical and recreational marijuana, unlike any other state before it. Do you think Ohio will want this or will it not pass?

I think it's interesting for the state to be taking a different approach and just going for it all at once, vs just doing medical, then recreational.

I'm actually located in ohio so this is interesting

Honestly I think it will fail, Ohio is controlled by republicans currently(our districts are divided & controlled by them for now at least).

On the whole I think to much of Ohio is conservative to pass this at this time.

I've also seen alot of negative ads towards it & negative signs and very little positive.

This should be moved to general discussion, but anyway

District representatives do not necessarily represent constituents. I live in Virginia, over 78% of people in VA support medical, and 54% support recreational. There has been very little movement in support of weed, not representing what constituents actually support; furthermore, district control and popular vote are entirely different things. Districts can be manipulated in so many ways (more often that not swaying the vote to the GOP.) For example, Congress (specifically the House) is heavily dominated by the GOP, yet they lost the popular vote in the last election. This ballot initiative will be based on popular vote, not what representatives have to say.

I don't know enough about Ohio's electorate to really speculate in detail, but it is a swing state so the democratic electorate is at least competitive. It is an off-year election, but weed being on the ballot could bring out millennials - and liberal voters as a whole - in droves. I think it'll pass if there is a higher voter turn out (which I expect weed will help with.)

I certainly hope it passes, but I think it needs some work. The ballot initiative practically establishes a monopoly with a few marijuana farms in the state. Few people are going to make A LOT of money with this initiative (providing it passes.)

I think it's very strange that they have the option for it to pass, but yet another option (if passes) disregards the outcome of the legality of it and just doesn't legalize it, seems flawed. It would be nice to see it become legal because i'm only about a half hour drive from Ohio. Family lives in ohio and i'v already seen posts from them about voting no towards it, makes me sad.

The way I see it, if cigarettes are legal marijuana should be too.

    Legalize the damn thing already.

I think its fucking awesome that they realized how harmless weed is. Considering the amount of pot heads, this shit is gonna pass for both recreational and medical use.

The other initiative I believe you're talking about regards changing the constitution of the state in order to create a monopoly, it is not directed at weed itself and if both initiatives (or even just the weed one goes through), a court case is likely to follow.

The weed initiative places all cultivation in the hands of a few people, effectively establishing a monopoly in the constitution (this ballet initiative is to amend the constitution.)

I highly support recreational use of marijuana for the simple use of getting high. But pot has A LOT of medical uses that can help A LOT of people, so I believe medicinal should be federally legalized for all the USA, states shouldn't have a choice in that matter. Moving to a different state to get the medical help you need is idiotic, you shouldn't have to move to get that help....

Got off track... my thoughts are I support this even though I do not live in Ohio.

What I've heard on several big facebook groups located in Beavercreek this is going to fail.

Will see if their wrong though, but some of these groups have thousands upon thousands all spamming vote no etc.

I wonder how this'll vote.. should be interesting to see if it fails or passes. I think if it fails more states will want to stay away from voting.

    Moved to general discussion.

While I wouldn't have a clue about people's thoughts on this and how likely it is to pass (observing this forum for peoples opinions is a waste of time as members here are only of a certain demographic that, if anything, are a lot more likely to support weed than perhaps the general public) I am anxious to see what happens. If more and more states start legalizing it it's just a matter of time before it starts getting talked about world wide, last I heard some politicians in NZ are discussing legalizing for medicinal use but that's all it is for now - talks.

pretty crazy that the vote lost by around 800,000 votes. For something like that I feel like that's a crazy high amount. Better luck next year I guess

I told you guys ohio is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to conservative currently, our last district election like 80% of the districts were a complete landside, ohio is getting tired of democratic presidents.

There is no way in hell this was going to pass, just shows u how absolutely crushed it was over here.

I wouldnt plan on this being legal here within the next 5 years unless a DRAMATIC change happens.

I was hoping this would go through, give us in red states a chance. I believe it will be legal in some cap a city at a federal level in the next 5 years or so regardless though. There's a lot of money to be made and its working out very well where it is legal already.

Guys, the bill didn't pass because of the methods in which marajuana would be grown, sold and distributed (monopolies), not solely on the idea that "lol weed is legal that is illegal cant have that".

I am a regular smoker, as are many of my friends and classmates and we all voted no. Would legal weed be cool? Yeah. With the propositions it was introduced with? No.

I'll wait for a bill that doesn't make you get a special license which wasn't clarified on how easy or difficult it was to get one, and doesn't put the distribution / growing in the hands of a select few companies to monopolize and reap the rewards of consumer dollars.

What I wrote was probably all wrong, I'm not as into politics as most Americans SHOULD be, I'll admit. Look into responsible Ohioans, they're pushing for legalization without all of the odd stipulations that were on issue 3. If that goes through to the polls I honestly think there is no question that it would get passed.
