Runescape is an interesting game because you have so many different personalities and people involved with it. Invariably, you're going to meet some really cool people, and also some real assholes.

So, this thread could be a trip down memory lane for you, or it could be something as recent as today.

Who are the nicest people you have ever met on Runescape? What are your stories behind them being so nice? You don't have to say their actual username or anything, just what they did for you that was so helpful/nice. Did you know that person in real life? Or was it a complete stranger?

Conversely, who are the biggest JERKS you have ever met in RS? What made them jerks? Why do they stand out, specifically?

I'll give you guys my stories, the reason I made this thread is because I try to be a good memory for people in the game. I just recently tuned into a Twitch stream tonight where the guy was trying to get a Bond doing very tedious F2P tasks. I quickly hopped to his world and give him a bond .

But here are my stories

Nicest People I've met:
A guy I used to Runecraft with all of the time. We got to 99 together and had lots of great memories. He was a stranger, I didn't know him prior to Runescape. We each went for a Partyhat Set together, and he recently quit and gave me his stuff (couple of phats). I have it on a mule in case he ever comes back, I wouldn't think of spending it, even though I know he's probably moved on from Runescape for good (I've known him since 2005). He actually knew they had rl value, but he didn't care, he was giving it to me because I've been playing with him since the beginning. Funnily enough, we had a pact that whoever quit first would give each other our bank. This was back in 2007, and he REMEMBERED it. I was shocked, and honored.

My real life friend, who passed of a heroin OD this year, was one of the nicest guys I knew in the game as well. Bought my first ever Partyhat (Red) off of him, and keep it to this day (now especially, in memory of him..but I had never sold it since buying it in 2006ish).

Random Acts of Kindness:

-Getting my stuff given back to me after being killed by a random - was easily 50M in gear. I gave the guy 15m for being so generous.

-Having my gravestone blessed by a random player after forgetting my anti shield at dragons - this was back during the no free trade era when you had gravestones - maybe that's why he did it, but either way he didn't HAVE to bless my grave. Saved me 80 ish M. So long ago I don't know an exact figure.


Biggest Assholes I've met in Runescape

-Recently met a guy in 2007 that is hellbent on Pking me while I try to abyss runecraft. He has failed every single time. Got mad at me for saying that he was a terrible, skill-less pker, after his first ever attempt of failing to pk me. He has now taken the liberty to adding me on random accounts hoping that my pchat is on (which it sometimes is for Zybez related 07 purchases and sales). Whenever my pchat is on he will get on his pker and try to kill me. Highly irritating. Because there is no login timer, he will hop worlds tirelessly trying to re-find me after failing. Definitely one of the biggest asshole trolls I've ever met on Runescape.

Random Acts of Troll-ery
- Getting trade window scammed a Green Mask (Puts cash in, quickly changes it, this was before there was a glaring trade warning).

- Getting pked in Abyss, Pker bragged and wouldn't even sell me my gear back (I was offering a higher mark-up for the items too, as they're annoying to find in 07's GE-less Runescape). Also...what is there to brag about, killing a defenseless skiller?

- Countless attempts to be lured, phished, keylogged, and hacked throughout the years. Literally any method you can think of was attempted to be employed on me countless times over the years.

- Loaning my longtime friend a Red Partyhat so that he could take one of those booth pictures for his adventurer's log + forum avatar. You're not allowed to use the loan system to do this, I guess because Jagex does not want people falsely representing wealth (seems logical but really isn't all that logical as it's just one partyhat for an avatar...but w/e). Needless to say, my "friend" ran off with the partyhat. Never heard from him again.

Best RS Friend:

He was a guy called "EP Joker", believe it or not, I met him on an 06 remake server around 2013 and we both raced to max stats and #1 highscores at a rate of about 8x experience. Sadly, the server went down on the release of 07 along with the forums so we fully lost contact. Luckily, my RS name was the same as the 06 remakes name, therefore he added me and PM'ed me and we got talking again. We both came to 07 with different ideas, he fletched and sold maple longs to the general store and was one of the first 10 people to reach 55 mage, therefore when GP was literally 150m:1m 07, he had around 8m, which was a hell of a lot for day 5 or so. He was also #2 fletching at one point and #10 woodcutting. I took a different route and that was simply rushing barrows gloves as fast as possible. He helped me achieve these by lending me money and i'd do small favours for him occasionally too, like I did on the 06 remake. He also trust traded me with a 12m cash pile 2 weeks into 07 which I could've easily taken as far as he was concerned and sold for lots of IRL gains so I had a lot of respect towards him for trusting me ,as it potentially was 1B+ eoc. Not only this, we spoke everyday, skyped and more for around a year and the day he quit was the day I decided to quit 07 too as it was simply boring without him to chat with and speak to each and every day. I have recently come back to 07 and lost full contact with him as he doesn't go on skype anymore.

Biggest troll?

Meh, everyone fucking trolls. Theres a million of them... And scammers, F*ck them all

Nice people:
-When I was still f2p in 2007, I played only for 30 minutes a week. As you can imagine, money and training was therefore hard to obtain. And with only 30 minutes, it was even worse. 20 minutes into one session, I had the unfortunate whirlpool event while fishing lobsters. I was angry that I would have to go get a new lobster pot in Port Sarim, but a nice soul announced that he had found a owner-less lobster pot. And he saved much time.
-Once, about two years ago, I was helping out an evil tree fc by scouting as a nonrank. Finally finding a evil yew that I could actually cut, I announced it before proceeding to cut it. Suddenly another non-rank came up, gave me 10k, and left. How appreciative of him.

People that shouldn't play Rs:
-Every Pker who kills people that are looking for wildy penguins
-When I had just started in late 2005, a lvl 50 approached me and asked me to hand over my (small) cash stack, so that he could make sure it was real. I was all "seems legit" and handed over my 500 gp stack from killing goblins. And guess what? He was a magician, cause he disappeared.

 

Nicest People:
- My twin in crime back in 2004, Ziggily II, used to make this game interesting for me. She was the motivation I needed to max out my first account "Ziggily". Having someone drive you to complete a goal is rare these days in game.

- Having my grave blessed by many strangers the first time I went to GWD. It shows that I really did need 40 minutes to get back there when I was inexperienced.

- Viewers from my streams have always been awesome. Between giving me gameplay advice, donations or just skilling partners. It has always been rather refreshing.

Meanest People:
- Anyone who pks you while killing red or green dragons. I may look like a bot but damn... I just want those hides.

- Armour Trimmers/Item Switchers <- Those guys can burn in hell ;P

 

Best RS Friend, his name was Morris and we knew each other from impsoft.net we used to exchange auths and bot "together". Little did I know he became one of my best friends, though I haven't heard from him for a while.

 

Those were the days. I miss the communities from RSCheetah, RSBuddy and Rsbots.net. Good times.

 

My best buddy in RS was TrippinFlipp, we found each other RS2 beta and hit it off for quite some time. He ended up quitting RS and completely disappeared off the internet sometime in 2006.

Worst Troll ever: The guy who hacked my account and changed my recoveries and sold the recoveries.

There was a youtuber that showed people how to scam people lure ect. I dont like the kind of community makes

 

My Biggest rs friend was Andrew Gower and Paul Gower for making such lovely game.

The Biggest assholes ive met were Mod MMG / Mod Mark when they began to fuck the game up 2007-present

 

HAHA, this brings back some old memory's. When my friends and I first started playing RS back in 2004 or so one of my first experiences with anyone in game turned out to be me getting scammed. For just starting out this was a big deal because I had no idea how to get another one but anyway heres the story.

The sun was up just like any other day and I was cutting trees with my bad ass bronze axe (before they became fucking dumb ass hatchets) And this hot bitch stroll by. She stops looking at me and types "Will you be my boyfriend" I am a nine year old horn dog so of course I say hell yea, this leads to her asking to borrow my bronze axe to cut a few logs which I am a little sketchy about. Even though our relationship was already 45 seconds old I had started to develop trust issues which I should have listened to in the near future. So I say how about I just cut the trees for you and I give her my inventory of logs. She says that's fine and takes them then about a minute later she asks again and I say ok but could I get it back when your done and she says yea. Then I trade her the axe and she runs away with it and my heart. Ever since that day I have hardened myself into the stone cold bad ass that you see before you. Good day

 

I remember another nice guy. Some guy tried pking me at Green Drags and another pker came and jumped him for me.

Ended up getting him off my back long enough for me to escape. This was in like 2005 so I wasn't really wealthy, and losing 200-300k woulda really hurt.

 

Best: Back in 04, as a free to play newb someone was offereing 100gp each per cowhide at the cow farm. I thought I was so rich getting 10k. He then added me telling me that he buy whatever I got at 100gp each, so I got him 1k hides and made my first 100k in rs. I learned now that he probably easily flipped it but at the time he did me a huge solid. Then I mate a user named Julien5662 (facebook friends to this day) he ran a fan rs website and a gained moderator there. We chatted, chilled in game etc. Eventually he had a drop party and got banned for RWT even when we wasn&#8217;t but whatever. Because I won&#8217;t forget him training with me or teaching me who pitbull was back in 05. I have since meet a few memorable users that have introduced me to Jagex mods private accounts. (I know they were legit because they were forum mods/player mods).

Most of my good friends on runescape also have my real life information. Meaning that we still talk to this day about runescape as well as other real life issues. As I write this, I&#8217;m being sent down memory lane. A user giving me my first law rune, my first whip, etc. This game can be called a time sink or whatever you want but I wouldn&#8217;t trade the memories I have had on it for anything else!

Worst:

Was in a public library in 2004, and someone said they were quitting rs and wanted me to have their level 116. Given I was only like 30ish I was like hell yeah man, what&#8217;s the password? I logged in and played for thirty minutes in the wilderness killing hill giants and gaining nats (300each at the time). Only to be logged out and figured out the password was changed. No big deal, until I went back to my account and saw my account was disable. Turns out he reported me for password scamming. I was furious, I wrote to Jagex and explained that I was given the account for like 100k, and that it wasn&#8217;t password scamming. They unbanned my account and informed me that buying accounts were against the rules. (Luckly right? Because I legit didn&#8217;t know at the time)

Also, had a friend back in 2007 that learned I got a green mask, and asked if he could take a picture with it. I trusted him, and traded it over to him to find him immediately log out and block me. Getting blocked hurt me more than the scamming because I knew the friendship was over. He has since removed me from his block list, and I chatted with him about old memories, and then ask him why he did it and he just logged out. I&#8217;m not blocked but he refuses to acknowledge his actions

 

When I first started playing RuneScape properly and understood it was around 2006. I was 12/13. Back then we all had dial up internet and so we all booked computers at the library because we wouldn't get disconnected all the time there. It was me and I'd say 5/6 friends. Mostly we used to joke about and rip each other off pretending good stuff was worth less and so on. That was when RS was enjoyable for me and we could all play and not know what was next.. whereas nowadays everyone's just set on max cape or comp cape and so on. Every new monster or location we found was like the jackpot if nobody else had seen it yet.

Eventually most of them quit and I think all of them have now - I still remember all their RSN's though lol.

 

This describes probably 90% of veteran Runescape players, I miss those days, everything was literally an adventure. Every new location, new skill, the first day of members, the first day of thieving/farming and doing members skills and fishing for food that was un-fishable in F2P worlds..

Seeing somebody with a whip too, that was crazy! I was stuck with my rune scim and like 55 attack training for dragon weapons and never seemed to level up. Whereas now, I could get 50-60 in 1 session, it doesn't seem the same.

Oh my goodness, I completely forgot about rushing over to the library after school ended to play runescape. And the struggles of playing on dial up weren't actually that bad unless you had a system update then it was like lets watch an episode on tv and come back.

So much nostalgia in this thread :'(

Trolls? I don't have a favorite, unless by that you mean one that I despise least, in which case it would be hard to say

My favorite philanthropist on RS might be Ayeshun, he buys burnt food from any player and pays a couple of hundred gp each time. I think this helps to reduce wealth imbalances in runescape.

 

Had another troll today.

Was buying 2k energy pots for considerably above market price (almost 200 gp ea above it), because my profits for RC are really good in 07 that paying extra doesn't matter.

Only needed 600. Guy pms me wanting to sell 800. I say "Thanks for offer, I'll take 600 though I got the rest I needed." Guy says "meh" and logs out without even letting me counter offer lol. He was already in my world.

Then he starts arguing with me, which invariably led to "Who has better skills" and "who has a bigger bank". All because I wouldn't buy ALL of his pots, just almost all of them.

*Sigh* 07 community. First time I've been really disappointed with it. But they're in any game so I won't complain too much. But all that over 200 energy pots lol. He was quite angry too...even though my offer had been up on Zybez for over half an hour and people were quickly selling to me since I was paying a little extra.
