I'm Loosing my Faith in Christianity..

I was always raised as a Christian but since college i've grown to believe that America has controlled what we were taught in public schools. Not just subjects but religion, government, standards, diversity, etc.
We were raised to all be "good" American children. Christian kid, listens to mom and dad, supports the American flag/army, loves Democracy, believes America is the greatest, and so on.
Seemed to me basically like government hypnotises children. So I thought, well what the fudge. Has Christianity just been another thing we were just raised to believe? Shine some light and help me out here anyone.

    Cliffs
    -Raised Christian
-Went to college, started doubting it
-Want to find the light again, but can't seem to believe it.

Any input would be nice, from either side

Personally I don't believe in god. My mother was christian and my father was atheist, so I wouldn't say I was raised either way (although I only went to church a few times neither really told me what to think). I can't personally overlook science and reason and blindly follow Christianity; I've always been one to question things. However, if Christianity works for you then that's perfectly fine. Or maybe you could be agnostic and think that there is a higher being, but you just aren't exactly religious. If you are adamant on sticking with Christianity, then talk to a member of your church and tell him your concerns. Hope I helped.

My whole family is 'Christian', I searched for something besides that due to the religion being outdated if you will, due to the bible being changed, miss conceptions of who Jesus really was etc.

Looked into Islam and found answers to any question I had ever had and any question I will have.

I'm not ganna sit here and tell you what to beleive about the whole subject... Personaly, I don't beleive in god and truly beleive the whole church and religion thing is really only used to gain money and controll over the people willing to fall for it. I know this may be a weird thing to others and just frankly stupid. But it is what I personally do beleive.

Imo morals, ethics, common sense is the true meaning of religion. It's easy to know wrong from right and apply it to your life.

Nation, do you know wrong and right?

What makes it 'wrong' to rob a store to feed your starving children? A law? If it's right because your kids need food, why isnt it right if you need drugs?

Everyones version of wrong and right is different. I don't believe religion has anything to do with morals. I've known weekly church attendees with worse morals than most.

As for god being real. The christian religion has been proven to be fake in many ways. I've never read the bible but I remember the big controversy sumtime in the early-mid 2000s about how the bible or christians or something like that said the world was just thousands of years old when science proved it to be billions. And hey, theres evolution as well. and "god made humans in his image" right? is god a big stinking fucking ape? must be!

Religion for the most part is used to control the masses. Older religions, which are probably the closest to being "right" are called "heathen religions" such as my own beliefs in Odinism. Now see, most sites and information will label my religion as a "heathen pagan religion" but this is only because my religion can't be used to control me. It cant be used to force me into agreeing on what is right or wrong through fear or any other means, there for I am a "heathen" for believing in such a thing.

OP the best advice I can give you is do what you feel is right. Also search for you own answers. I was raised Christian but I am non-religious.

If you look at the statistics Religion in general has a large trend among the general population. A larger minority now claim non-religious/no religious affiliation. Any religion is about control. It gives standards and practices that are expected to followed to be part of that religion.

Religious belief is a matter of geography.

Just think about it this way, if you had been raised to believe in Islam, would you still believe in the Catholic god?

My religion requires me to do nothing.

However my afterlife is decided by some things, I won't go into detail of all the realms of the afterlife in my religion but for example, if I were to die in glorious battle, Id have a 50% chance of going to Valhalla and a 50% chance of going to Folkvangr, neither is decided by my morals or practices.

I don't believe in god, and as a few other posted above I really don't know whats true or not since the bible has been changed so many times. I was raised as a christian, but when I had questions people keep giving me different answers to the same question, I believe growing up with morals/respecting the troops and what not but to be honest that came from me not being a christian, you can be a FANTASTIC person without believing in god.

You're right OP, but it's not necessarily the government. It's a cultural thing. Had you been raised in the Middle East by Middle Eastern culture, you'd have adopted their religion and would be a part of their lifestyle.

Instead of trying to force yourself into a certain lifestyle, just live the way you want and find out who you are. I was raised as a Catholic but have since become relatively agnostic, with no firm belief in God or other aspects of any religion. I like it like that, in my opinion it opens your mind to a lot and lets you be more accepting as well as critical towards mostly anything.

AS a semi religious guy i'd say do what you believe in you shouldn't be forcully following christianity and if you have questions you can ask people , like your family if you wanna find the light discover it brother go to a pastor or somthing sorry im not christian but i know a lttle or go to a bible study or somthing.

The best thing you can do to hold on to your religious upbringing is to ignore the urge to think in-depth about things that can conflict on another. For instance, evolution makes perfect sense but I never ask myself the question "did God create everything?" simply because I know where that thought process would take me. I do not debate or ponder the existence of God because what I have been taught to believe and would like to believe goes against my ability to reason and think things through rationally...

My suggestion, in short, is don't ask yourself questions that cause you to question your faith. Don't think yourself into a corner. I'm in the same position as you. Feel free to PM if you wanna talk.

I think that there is always a point in time in someone's life that you could possibly consider to be a "dark" time where maybe you are questioning a lot of things you used to believe in. Ultimately if you want to have faith then it will find it's way back to you, if you choose not to. Well then faith won't find it's way back to you. I would just highly recommend doing some soul searching.

There are thousands of religions, I don't believe a single one. A baby is born with no notion of god. Religion is just a waste of time.

Read more. Reading is what got me to start asking questions, and reading helps lead me to answers.

But don't expect to get everything perfectly figured out.

I think you're looking at it objectively. Religion looks more like a tool to rule the masses in a community. But different religions are based on different aspects of life. Christianity is based on love. Love your neighbor, love the peasant on the street, love jesus who made the ultimate sacrafice, love your enemy.

I think it also helps rest the souls of people throught life when you think of dead relatives and the death certificate everyone has when they are born into this world.

I'm an agnostic, leaning more towards Christianity because of the family background, but I would never rule it out for mere chance.

Good, religion is pointless and was only created so people would have simple answers to life, IE: how'd we become humans.
