I found this article from a respected non-sensationalist British newspaper's website and I think it is worth sharing. It focuses on WoW but it relevant for all MMOs.

That was a very interesting read. What I don't understand though, is why they didn't just buy servers and use bots instead of real people. It would have been cheaper to maintain and you don't get in legal trouble for mal-treatment of prisoners. Also with bots you don't have to feed them and provide facilities.

 

bots would be detectable, they wont get caught unless one gets out like they did if that is real

Thats pretty crazy.. It would suck to have to do manual labor all day then play a game for another 12 hours a day... however at least they could pm family/friends while they were playing.. Gotta find the bright side in every situation.

 

Man..... Playing wow/runescape till you can barley see. That's crazy.

Some people would be like playing RS/WOW for 12 hours for prisoners, not bad! No it would be like going for 200m agility xp then right after hunter.

That's insane. As fucked up as it sounds, it's genius of the prison guards but morally that's insanity. After all the labor they get forced to farm on a game, and to think the guards would keep all the money and I'm sure the prisoners weren't given anything of it. It's smart of the guards but good lord it's fucked up.

 

I didn't know WOW gold farming was so profitable.

Having being born and lived in China for many years, this doesn't surprise me at all, nonetheless, still a good read. China's still a pretty corrupt place, so it's no wonder the prison guards are never caught.

 

If you're willing to break the law then playing rs 12 hours a day and being imprisoned is a good punishment imo, some american prisons do the same thing by making them make blankets and clean roads etc with minimal pay.

 

This is very sad, yes they are prisoners, yes they have done bad but they have their own rights, which madman would make them play a game which they then can RWT, disgusting.

 

Thats why i don't support gold sights based in any asian country. Want to buy gold go local GO SYTHE! In all seriousness this is terrible BUT im not that shocked. I mean slavery is still very much alive and going strong in many ways then just chinese prisoners playing wow for 12 hours a day.

 

It is not surprising seeing how profitable gold-farming really is.

 

Due to a majority of these prisoner are run to profitier in one way or another, china is one of the most corrupt countrys in the world. there has been numeros cases where rich westerns who need transplants, instead of waiting years in there countrys go to china and simply buy organs from prsioners.


If your in jail, and the labour they are forcing you to do is ""gold farm"" then so be it, and if the money is going to the state then that is good. However in all these cases it is organsied crime, or triads (such as green or Wo triad) money goes through the warden, guards and then triads.
