HTML5 / Runescape 3 will be a big deal

Lol basically the same thing, they choose not too because it's their game. I guess that's a major reason why they wouldn't do it. Major contradictions.

 

Well, and the fact that they've already stated publicly, on camera that they could make 10-15x more revenue from directly selling accounts, gold, items, etc than what they make from SoF & Solomon's Store. They continued on saying that while they could do that, and they know that would bring a ton of revenue, it would only be good in the short-run, as it would cause massive amounts of issues and would ultimately lead to the death of the game. They repeatedly state that they want to keep the game going for another 10+ years, so it would be downright stupid to make an update where they directly sold gold, accounts, items, etc. Good idea in short-term, bad idea in long-term. That's why they don't do it.

 

Basically my opinion on the matter is now that JaGeX has introduced micro payments, in order for players to be able to indirectly purchase experience and wealth from Jagex legitimately, they are deciding to expand on their market, obtaining some of the people who spend their $ on bots to gather experience and money. From a money making perspective its awesome, from a black market sythe perspective, I don't like it. Runescape is certainly not dying just yet, and this overhaul with graphics and EoC will definitely grow RS as a whole regardless of what some old veterans who disagree with the changes think.

 

The graphic's will always be shit, JaGeX is too small of a shitty company to make a real game that's worth while. They need to stop being peices of trash, and expand their fucking company. They want to be as big as World of Warcraft, well then expand your dinky ass company. They are UK based also, by the way. And Mark Gerhard is the jewy asswipe that thought of the idea of micro transactions, not greedy "American's" @ kenpen.

Mark Gerhard bought the company with the idea of turning it away from a game, and making himself a significant amount of money out of it, which he has succeeded HUGELY. The game will always be shit, no matter if they change it from Java to HTML5. They have been adding in trashy content for years, that are the same exact things that were already in the game. People paid for it then, and will continue to pay for it now, people quit, and people begin to play, it's a huge cycle that will probably remain the same with Runescape for many years to come.

But this update from Java to HTML5 won't change much. It'll just give the current player's a way to say "Runescape graphic's aren't shit brooo!"

 

No to the parts about graphics.

The reason its currently bad graphics is because it is a web based game still. If it had a dedicated client that installed on your HDD it could be a thousand times better. This is not the MMORPG feel that Runescape has wanted to have though. There is a method to their madness. Not to mention that graphics overhauls take a lot of work.

 

Graphic's wouldn't be that hard for them if they would use some of their money towards their company, and hiring more artists.

 

While I value a fresh perspective on these matters, I believe it would be foolish to accept an idea as true simply because someone in a position of authority has posted it.

 

Making graphics up to par with some of todays current graphics on consoles etc, and having it solely a web based browser game is quite frankly, a dream. Loading all that information from the net would rape basically any computer and you would need high speed internet to even log on. For any serious graphics revamps it would need to be released as something you download and install on your computer.

 

They are so focused on gaining new players that they are screwing their veteran players who made them so successful in the first place. Sure they may gain some new players who join because they see the flashy new graphics but I doubt they will stay long term. As for them being so adamant about getting read of bots I do not understand. They are going to see a huge drop in membership sales so I wouldn't be surprised if we see more things like SoF being introduced into the game.

Indeed, the graphic updates are improving a lot.
But the game updates are still as bad as usual.
So it somewhat balances out.

 

My honest opinion is that Runescape won't be revived just because of some new graphic's. Graphic's have things to do with some games. But not all, if a game is truly really good, and I mean TRULY very good, graphic's don't matter. (Starcraft) But Runescape need's a graphic rework JUST to have people play it, because it is not a good game.

 

There are some dinky MMO's for mobile devices, I don't believe you can play them on a PC, but I know you can on a mobile device. I don't know the names off the top of my head, but there are some.

If Runescape does move towards a mobile game style of playing, it'll be huge for kid's in high school. But the graphic's aren't really going to appeal to them.

What I'm saying is that graphic's don't usually "make or break" a game. Gameplay does.

I can't imagine playing runescape on a mobile device unless they somehow make a interface specifically for mobile devices.

 

Don't really see a problem in doing that, (unless there are technical, software/hardware related difficulties in doing so.)
If runescape becomes playable on mobile devices, then like Sythe said, it would be an expanded market.

I'm sure that Jagex would try their best to make Runescape as compatible as possible on these newer devices, so that more people would play

 

I haven't played as much on my personal account lately, but this whole thing has given me slight hope. Now when I sit and play, sometimes it can feel kinda bleh...but maybe it'd help if I were able to play more 'freely' with a true mobile device(maybe not really with a phone, but a tablet would be interesting) as opposed to a desktop or a laptop.

Yeah that could be very interesting. I don't have a tablet though and have no plans to do so. Hopefully I'd be able to play it on my phone via WiFi if I'm bored and at a relatives or something. That'd be pretty cool imo.
