Zerker or Range tank ~ The debate continues

The dilemma of choosing between a zerker and range tank is back..

so zerker with 70-80 attk, 90-99 str, 45 def, 99 range, 99 mage

or

tank - 99 def, 99 range ( 148- str/attk)


Which would be more fun/better for pking?
Which would be cheaper for pking?
Which is better for non pvp things?

 

Zerker. More variation(you can pk with both melee and range.) With a tank you're relying on that big dbolt spec or hoping your opponent stays to the death.(Can also use dbow, but that prevents you from wearing high defence gear without risking) From my personal experience it's hard to get fights as a tank especially with people under 45 defence(willingly, of course, lol)

Cheaper: Again, zerker. You're always going to have that dbolt risk no matter how few you bring. You can obviously wear dhide/rune but that sort of defeats the purpose of having all those extra defence levels.

Better for non pvm: This really depends, majority of bosses you either mage or range so probably a tank in this situation. For slayer and things, tank would also be better as long as you don't mind using range(or whip with extremely low strength on defence mode)

Tank

Tanks are better in combat, but if you are just pking for fun, you might enjoy a zerker better.

 

Tanks do tend to have better KDR but harder to find fights.
Zerker you'll be fighting other zerkers with close if not identical stats.
I would do tank. You can watch videos of both and see what you like if you haven't had any of the two accounts before.

 

If you do go tank, I wouldn't get 99 defence. The best equipment in the game stops at 75, the other combats you get are just wasted past that point

That's what I'm doing, and I loved mine on the other rs before eoc came out. They're beastly pking.

 

I've had two zerkers in different time-periods with different stats.
I had a 80/99/45 pre-BH and loved it.
After BH I went 60/99/45 and by then range tanks had become more and more widespread. Ended up getting shit on. I voted range tank, despite loving zerkers and never having a range tank of my own.

 

zerkers are much more fun, very flexable like a pure but with more variety of opponents and less restrictions for non pking. tanks are dependable as bread though. your 70 def+ is going to allow you a lot of pvm options that zerks don't have. 1vs tank pking can get tedious b/c you're really going to be having your stats making the excitement for you. zerkers rely on their specs and risking and timing much more. if you do invest in 94 mage for veng though, pking as a tank gets much better. also, tanks are ideal for clan/multi pking.

 

Zerker or tank is best

 

I actually have a Zerker, Barrows Gloves, Torso, Rune Defender, Fire Cape.

I'm at 73 Strength at the moment, I'm likely going to get 75 Str and 70 Attack then go to tank.

It seems silly but as a Zerk EVERYONE has exactly the same stats.

 

ok thanks.. at the moment im at 73 attk, 79 str BUT I MAY STOP.. just so i can switch to being a tank

because of my attk n str i will be +1 combat level then any other perfect tank... but that doesn't really matter haha

I'd personally go for the zerker, much more flexible in what you can do, better pking, different combat styles each PK. Where as with a tank, your stuck with one option and thats range.. you cant level up melee past 148 (combined) otherwise you become a main.. Zerker all day erryday.

 

Zerker plain and simple no one wants to fight low risking low percentage of killing tanks so it takes forever for a fight,

Put it simply:
Zeker - more work, but a lot more fun PKing
Tank - will beat the zerker in wildy ~most~ of the time. Generally more kills, yet not as fun (from experience. Depends on the person really)



From experience. Had both maxed from about 2009 RS. Working on my zerker in '07scape atm.

 

I'm more of a zerker person, but the range tank is a superior build.

A well-trained zerk with good technique will destroy a tank 9 out of 10 times, any day of the week.
