YouTube Viewer Suppresion

Just a pic that's a little interesting. For those of you that don't know, Youtube may freeze your counter if your video is not to their liking. This enables YouTube (or really Viacom) to control what people watch. For instance, a video with more views is more likely to turn up as a search result than a video with less views. Even if it has the same tags.

What do you guys think about this? Do you think Youtube (or Viacom for that matter) has the right to control what people watch? Should we allow Viacom all this power? To think of all the mediums of media that they control is pretty scary in my opinion.

It's there site so it shouldn't be illegal, however I do think it's pretty retarded and they shouldn't do it.

Lol, you should know that YouTube does not update the hit count instantly. It make take up to 48 hours to update, and even more if the clip has video_popups, (annotations). The screenshot you posted shows that the video has been uploaded yesterday. Wait another 24 hours and check.

If you search 'Quality Web Hosting' on YouTube, you will find my video as a top result.

 

It's privately owned. They can do whatever the fuck they want.

 

Thats just ONE video. This has happened many times before. If this video has not been taken down in one weeks time, I will post another screenshot. I assure you this happens with many other videos (Most of them being political and speaking against censorship as well.)

 

I do believe what the youtube video is saying is right, but I don't believe that the viewcounts are being altered. Also, search ranking in YouTube isn't based on hits and ratings, as they can be spoofed. It's a combination of stuff.. >_<

It's their website, they can do what they want. Sythe mods and admins can delete posts and threads. That is censorship.
