Your guide to making a Range Tank

I've seen this guide requested many many times so I'm going to put this in here, If you have suggestions, PLEASE TELL ME so I can improve my guide to be the best out there .This is MAINLY a guide on where to train your stats for a range tanker. I will add in a few other notes on pking gear, etc. I will list them probably from the most-least important. 1 being the most important, etc.

    1. RANGE: yes this is very important, and MANY people ask "Where is a good place to train range?"
1-40 range: Monks in edgeville monstary, These have low defence, are uncrowded in p2p worlds and heal themselves. NOTE: These are also in f2p, Just a little bit more crowded but should NOT be a problem.

Varrok Sewers: simple enough, many safespots, many monsters. This is f2p/p2p
50-70 range: rock crabs/experiments, HOW TO GET TO THEM: rock crabs are in fremminik village (just a little north from the main hall) there is no requirement to get to these.

Experiments are found during the "creature of frenkenstrain quest" not far in at all, I want to keep it short so I'd have to reccomend using a quest guide on how to get to these. rock crabs have low defence, 50 hp (200 exp each) and there are many of them. experiments have low def 100 hp (400 exp each) and there are 2 per "spot" and it is non multi combat.

70-90 range: MANY places to train, I will expand on this topic ALOT.

YAKS: 50 hp, non multy, fast spawns and easy for rangers. What to use:

This picture can also be used for reccomended gear for any range training spot with safespots, e.g fire giants and ogres.

AVIANSIES: These are not the fastest exp, but you DO make some money off of them, you'll need 70 defence+ reccomended and range tanking gear. BRING AN ARMADYL PENDANT (obtained at the end of the "temple of ikov" quest) You'll need a zammy item which isn't included in the picture, but heres what I suggest bringing. This isn't the best gear, and if you have bunyip you basically don't need any food. but here:

FIRE GIANTS: You get to these in "The Waterfall Quest". There is a safespot, but I HIGHLY suggest you bring some food incase you lag when you go to pick up arrows/bolts/knives. Void range is helpful here, and they drop ALOT of fires, gold charms, and some rune items.

OGRES: Personally, I have never gone here But there is a safespot, Decent drops and lots of them.

BLACK DRAGONS: A chance of a visage drop But they get VERY CROWDED in the members dungeon. YOU WILL NEED AIR STRIKES to get the monster to yourself here, since it is non multi and there are only 2 dragons, with high HP, Semi slow spawns and pretty high defence. Rune cbow reccomended here. DONT FORGET YOUR ANTI SHIELD

PEST CONTROL: Decent exp, GET A CLAN FOR THIS, (24/7 clans are great so you can pc any time youd like.) Not reccomended because not alot of hp exp.

90-99 RANGE: Only use this method if you have ALOT of money to spare
    (20m+)

RED CHINS. There are several spots to toss chins at, including the zombies on ape atoll, which are the best imo. YOU WILL NEED P POTS, VOID HIGHLY RECCOMENDED also.
Look up the location on a chinning guide or on a help site or something, But the general idea of it is to get all the monkies attacking you (have your protect from melee prayer on) and get them into a box, always stand under one of the overhangs to avoid the falling rocks. and ATTACK THE MONKEY THAT IS IN THE MIDDLE. You should hit 6-9 monkies with 1 chin, getting you an average of 300 exp per chin..

What to wear and bring: [IMG]

If you would like a more in depth guide, that shows you how to toss chins without using prayer you can find a great chinning guide here: http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=944020

    RANGING WEAPONS (for training):
Iron knives: very good, cheaper than bronze, fast, hit decently.
Kebbit crossbow: FAST even though it is a crossbow, It hits accurate and high. Bolts are roughly 40gp each.
Bone crossbow: NO, there isnt a quest requirement to use this, only to use the special attack. VERY CHEAP. It hits decent, but not very fast. (Bolts are 2gp ea)
Mage short: Old school, All though i reccomend knives over these you might want to use msb.
Rune c'bow: Good against monsters with high defence, for power hits, but slow.

    2. DEFENCE: PROPER TANKERS NEED VERY HIGH DEFENCE.

    1-40: Does NOT really matter.
40-70: Rock crabs/experiments, I stated what is required to get to both above.
40-70: Red spiders, Read below to see where they are, etc. These CAN be done at 40 defence, Just try to bring the best def bonus possible so you dont need to bank as much.
70-99: Several methods to this, I'll list them all.
SLAYER: Train your defence while training slayer, this is fast if you use a black mask with whip. Gets 2 skill trained at once .

BANDITS: Very fast exp in the tents, bring a god item (guthix won't work) go into a tent and put your auto retalliate ON. Bring a full inventory of monkfish, Maybe 500 noted monkfish and 100k cash. When you are out of food, go to the general store, Sell 25 of your noted monkfish to the store and and buy them back at a slight loss, but saves a banking trip
No need for this if you have guthans!

Red spiders: non multy, just like bandits. Are on the 3rd floor of the security stronghold, first room you enter. HIGH DEF BONUS VERY USEFUL HERE, So you hardly need to eat, which saves you banking trips If you don't have guthans.

    3. HITPOINTS: By the time you are 99 range/def you should be maybe 96 hp (estimate) THE BEST WAY TO 99 IS PCING OR SOULWARS. PC/SW is the fastest hp exp You can get (maybe apart from red chins). But chinning 96-99 hp would cost a lot. Pcing your hp is the way to go, and the best.

    4. MAGIC: You need this to at least 94 even if you use tank gear. (vengeance is very helpful).
1-45: Use the best curse spells you can cast, with the lowest mage bonus possible (so you can splash and keep casting on the same monster)

45-55: Camelot teleports, simple enough right?

55+:High alching is the simplest way for mage exp, It is very fast, and relatively cheap. A few good items to alch are:
Emerald bracelet, Green/blue d hide bodies, Magic longbows, Ruby bracelets, Sapphire bracelets, and various summoning pouches.

CURRENT ITEMS WITH LEAST AMOUNT OF LOSS AS OF 12/05/10: To my knowledge they are Rune Javelins ( about 44 gp loss ea) and Rune thrownaxes (about 41 loss ea).
Theres a slight downside to alching equippable items, its that you tend to misclick them if you aren't careful and wield them, which slows things down abit. But you do save cash.

MAGE TRAINING ARENA: You get ALOT of experience here, And can also make a nice profit getting mage books/master wands/inf pieces etc etc. Or if you just want exp, I suggest you enchant in the enchanters area, decent exp and relatively cheap.

70-99: Bursting is VERY fast exp, same concept as chinning and pretty much just as fast. 200k+ exp per hour here. But very costly. A great place to ice burst is at rock lobsters, since alot of tanks tend to get 99 summoning as well. Recommended gear would be full battle robes, sol, mage's book and infinity boots. There are alot of youtube guides on how to lure so please refer to those.

Well, I hope you make good use of my guide ALL SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME. And please let me know If I made any typos.

NOTE: ALL of these skills can be Pced (pest controlled) Might be faster than rock crabs/experiments but not alot of hp exp.

Could you possibly make the text smaller ?
My eyes are hurting because of the colour and how projectile the font is.

Why would you need 300mil starting cash? All the training methods i've stated are cheap, apart from bursting and chinning ofc, but you don't need to do that.

^ Overall, decent guide, i'd say 8/10. I reommend maybe making the text a bit smaller and chaning the colors to darker ones because it can hurt your eyes to read. Other than that, well done.
