fml just wasted an hour trying to debug my sandbox when the problem was php has a function "is_writeable" and an identical function "is_writable" (without the e) they both do the same thing but they are two separate functions. nice, php developers. sending you flaming turds in the mail next christmas

Just got avatars successfully uploading to the blob system and displaying from the blob system with no xen modifications. This is good progress albeit it slower (progress that is, not code speed -- which is blazing) than expected due to the awkward way in which one must debug a sandbox (mostly by headers as it turns out)

I've got stubs for all php IO functions. I've only modified a couple of them so far (the ones needed for uploading an avatar: is_dir, file_exists, copy). I'll finish doing the wrapper functions for the sandbox over the next day or so. Progress will be faster now that I've got the superstructure of the sandbox set up.

This should be a robust improvement for our overall xen progress because it offers an alternative way to extend the existing xen functionality without breaking future official xen updates. Therefore as we move forward with transition and hit more hurdles we will have two orthogonal avenues for overcoming those hurdles.

 

Finishing up the sandbox today. Just going through all the remaining PHP IO functions and disabling or redirecting them to the blob system.

Some of the functions enabled by default in PHP are simply shocking. A lot of them I'm just disabling entirely. No (user) application should need this level of access to the operating system.

 

Except for the user center which Matt is doing, yes I am doing it all by myself.

I don't know when it will be done. Hopefully soon. I have spent most of my waking hours on it since a couple of weeks before Christmas.

 

v1 of sandbox is finished and working for avatars. Haven't tried attachments yet.


Added watchdog scripts to the cluster nodes to run the xen-foro "deferred.php" thing -- it's a cron but it runs a lot so there's no reason not to have the servers run it instead of the users.


Working on css style fixes again.

 

you actually could write client-only forum software in html5/js/webrtc. would basically be a p2p forum. you could use a blockchain to store the messages.

 

So while we were developing I applied a series of xenforo official patches as they were released, to keep the codebase up to date.



This has totally fucked my custom breadcrumb navigation. For whatever reason they appear to have removed the array this is normally built from. Just one more of a thousand things to fix.

 

There's supposed to be a third one that goes in the middle if its a sub forum but there's too much other stuff to fix so I'm going to leave it like that. I can fix it after launch.
