Ran into an annoying curiosity -- some of the files shipped with xenforo have windows line endings. I didn't put these in because the files have never left the server -- they were downloaded onto the server directly and then unzipped on the server. Anyway windows line-endings cause the gnu patch utility to mysteriously fail without specifying why it failed. Once I figured out what was wrong I just installed dos2unix and run that over the files before patching. Now it works fine.

Going to look at making sure all the existing dice results are correct before moving on to cards and then ipaudit

cards are a little tricker than I recalled

the white cards count a deck-per-thread which means running a query at point of bbcode render

the greencards count a deck-per-post which is easier

however as already pointed out I should do ipaudit preferentially so I've just commented out cards for now. I'll re-implement them later. They just come up as blank [card][/card] at the moment

 

I wasn't aware that the ip audits played a big role in catching vaders. Usually when someone is dumb enough to use the same ip, they use the same skype, emails, etc. The ip audit system is fairly new to me and we seemed to have comparable vader reports back then, without the use of ip auditing. I'm not really concerned either way, so whatever works best.

It's not so straightforward anymore. The process in how you end up catching a ban evader has many routes, and thanks to tools such as the IP Audit and Skype resolvers, it's much easier to catch them than without. It doesn't make sense from a security standpoint to not have it working before the official release. I mean, we shouldn't be rushing for the release anyways. (No offense intended)

 

so ipaudit system is a pain to re-implement

previously it used a bunch of database triggers and stored procs but these will clutter the cluster and could produce deadlocks etc so I will rewrite it in php

essentially on every major action (successful login, post and PM) the IP and userid and applicable post/pm id recorded in the ipauditing table.

So I will write a xenaddon that extends in those three areas.

The other half of it is the lookup system. There's three places it's used from memory: registration to check if the user has previously registered. Staff-facing IP Audit and user-facing ip audit (which has incomplete IPs with hashes)

This makes sense, I just assumed that using the ip audit wasn't that effective. You newer mods (and exmods) would know better than I would, so I trust your judgement. Also, no offense taken. I'd rather hear the blunt truth than a sugar coated version. We're all good here.

 

had to update the ipsearch table for innodb (i.e. cluster) friendly operation

reimporting data into it now with a couple of new columns. import seems to be going ok.

going to write the three primary components of the ipsearch addon as discussed above next

 

patched the sandbox to alter SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] to the IP connecting to cloudflare (otherwise xen will think all users are cloudflare)
