Xbox Forum Suggestion

For those who frequent the xbox marketplace, you are aware that it is dominated by mw3/live/msp/fifa 12 sales.

Over the past month Ive dealt with fifa 12 coin trades (buying and selling bulk amount of coins) and have become very worried by what has been taking place.

With only someone's email address and there date of birth you can call EA support and gain full access to there account. (Very common, an example here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cfr88F5COY)

Alot of people tend to use the same email for everything (including xbox live) and if someone was to find out there birthday, they could call EA supports and have access to someones account holding all of there fifa 12 coins.

The fact of the matter is, you can't ban people for asking your date of birth. What I believe should happen, is there should be a sticky in the xbox market section to educate and warn people about this potential threat towards there account. Also, if enough evidence is presented and the individual looks alarmingly suspicious, (like in the pictures above), I believe it should warrant a twc.

 

Support, if people can do this then they need to be told about it.
It's probably the rookie traders of Sythe this would happen to though, as most people I know use a trading only email/emails.

 

Regarding the trading emails, the email that would be used would be the one linked to your xbox account, I would think a vast majority of people would use there personal email for this, making it a hazard for even more experienced traders.

 

Yes.. Which is why you use a trading email.. That will be different to the email you use for your xbox account.

 

Support, this should be sticky'd to prevent members who have no knowledge of this of being scammed by this.

I don't think this is needed you doing that is your own fault, Kinda common knowledge.

 

You could I guess consider it attempted scamming but your birthday could be in your profile also. Not to mention if they did that you could report them.

 

Ya. Also, about your other post, out of the 5 people Ive talked to about this, none of them were aware this was taking place even though it has been out there for a while.

 

I'm in full support of a sticky. I only got my first Xbox a few weeks ago for Christmas, and I've considered multiple times purchasing FIFA 12 UT coins but never new that I could lose my account to such little information. It can't hurt to have one up.

 

I would support a sticky showing this method so users are informed. But then again, what are the odds that every user will actually take their time and read through the stickies. Cause not everyone does and that is reality.

But as dj has said, its pretty much common sense, i would give my age, i wouldnt go into specifics of how old I am.

 

Feel free to write up a sticky and PM me the thread link and I'll stick it for you. Just make sure it has a concise title like 'DON'T SHARE YOUR BIRTH DATE' or something along those lines.
