So, I'm writing a fantasy novel. Its meant to be very gory and has a lot of violence.
I currently have the story planned to be separated into 4 parts, each part taking place some amount of years after the last, for example where the last chapter of Part 1 ends, there is 10 years that are vaguely explained at the first of the first chapter of Part 2.
I am nearing the end of Part 2 and I've noticed that its very different from part 1.
Part 1 describes the lands and the people as the "hero" travels them with a good number of battles as he fights as a general in a war. (not modern style, sword&shield type battles.) But I've found that in Part 2, the hero doesn't do near as much traveling. I'm not really sure how I can explain this so it doesn't ruin any of the story for people on here that are going to read it...
In the first part, like I said there is a lot of traveling through the land, in the second part the hero travels to just 1 destination and fights enemy after enemy after enemy within this one location. The only traveling he does is between rooms in this area to find his next enemy. I feel that the book might be taking an "anime" turn in Part 2 (thats the best way I can think to describe it). Would a lot of readers find this a problem? If so, how should I go about changing it around? Should he be traveling around finding these enemies in different locations instead of all waiting for him in a dungeon-style area?
I've considered placing the enemies in different places, or attacking him in his travels, but that would require deleting and re-writing almost 15k words. Is there any other way? If most people think it wouldn't be a "slow" or unenjoyable read to keep the story how it is, I don't mind. But if it seems like just killing and killing and more killing with nothing else will make the story boring through part 2, I need to find some way to change that.
Any advice is appreciated.
