What if everyone on the website posted with (at least) better grammar, spelling, avoided the use of e-speak, and read posts top to bottom rather than paraphrasing what the poster two or three posts above them said?

Or the better question - is this even possible?

Would be great, but most likely impossible.

I vaguely remember a forum that required testing every 6 months on active members to make sure they were intellectuals, but that would just be irrational :p

E-speak is no different from what happens to languages naturally, over time.

Many modern English words are shortenings of Anglo-Saxon words, and many Anglo-Saxon words are shortenings of proto-Germanic words, and proto-Germanic words may have been shortenings of original Indo-European words.

Even the original IE speakers did not get their language out of nowhere; it had foreign (mostly Uralic, I think) loanwords and presumably mispronunciations and abbreviations of them.

Why should we prevent the development of e-speak? I used to be against it, but the more I think of it the more it seems like natural language evolution to suit changes (namely, the ability of electronic communication).

This is true @ SMR, for instance some people could be posting from a phone or mobile device.

But the real beef here is with people who can't legibly post what their point is.

What do you mean, ambiguities that wouldn't exist if they typed their words 'properly'?

Is that like, say, the words "knight" and "night", once pronounced "kuh-nigt" and "nachkt" respectively, but now have identical pronunciation?

It should be easy to identify context and apply disambiguations on your own.

    Well for instance:
"has anyone ever been as far even as decided to do want more look like?"
    Decipher. ;)
Even the best of anons at *chan have never realized what this poster wanted to get across.

I am at a loss, you win old friend.

E-speak is indeed an inevitable but necessary evil.
