Looking for reasoned arguments as to which location in the world you think is best in terms of lifestyle, and a debate on this topic.

Personally, I believe Scandinavia (and particularly Sweden and Denmark) are among the best places in the world in terms of lifestyle.

The beautiful cities and countryside, relatively liberal society, strong economy and high life expectancy, as well as universal access to education and medical care are certainly attractions to me. (could we please not start a debate on the merits of socialism here, it has been done elsewhere)

This is a pretty common attitude. But do you know anyone from the area? What is the typical work to leisure time ratio? How many kids can people afford to have there? What sort of restrictions exist on personal liberties?

Yeh, I remember reading once you had to have enough in your bank to last your life to move there. Not sure if thats 100% true though.

Australia - Great ocean road, Torquay. I'd love to move there for sure. Everyone there has such a laid back attitude, and are just generally easy going people. Well that's what i found anyway. Yeah, it's a chill place to be, some good Dirtbike places, and beast surf spots right next to you. The shops and stuff there are cool too, surf shops and cool café's at every turn of the corner.

I'd say Athens. I was in Greece last year, touring. Athens was simply lovely if you like shopping. Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Bally. You name it, they have it.
The food was exquisite. I had a lamb kebab fresh from the oven. It costed me 5 euros. And it was delicious. The place is also very beautiful. The Acropolis was great. I had a great time in Greece.
Granted, you need quite a bit of money to be able to enjoy Greece, but it was definitely worth it.

I already live in crappy high-income-tax, low quality-of-life Australia. Yes the beach is good, but everywhere has beaches.

It's broke and there aren't any jobs. How are you supposed to make a quality lifestyle for yourself there?

There are always jobs somewhere. If you're good at what you do, I believe there will be a job.
What about you, Sythe? Which location in the world would you consider the best in terms of lifestyle?

If I remember correctly, Dubai has a VERY high crime rate.

In all honesty, there's not many places that are the best place to live. Personally, I'd choose a place that meets the following criteria:

    Semi-Democratic
    Low Taxation
    Pay-For Services (Healthcare/Education)
    High-End jobs with little outsourcing
    Privacy but easily networkable
No dead-zones, and high-speed internet access
    Low Crime
    ... etc.

Not many places exist like this because the second they do, they become swarmed with people which causes the living standards to become unstable.

I live in south france.. In toulon . I live 3 miles from the beach on a side of a mountain. I have 1 of the beautiful views very easy life style . Very peaceful. Only people that afford to live here is old people.. Which is bad in way, because I'am only 19..

But for rich cities. These places you better know people, or you wont be able to do anything haha..

Monaco. Best view in the world, and its very rich people. I just drove through this city on the side of the cliff.. Very Very beautiful.. I dont know much about the city life though...

St tropez. Also Extremely rich . Everyone at the beach here are millionairs. Very classy clubs. Have a very very strict dress code.. You get to see lambo's and ferrari's everywhere.I visited this place with a friend who worked in securty at a club..

Nice. This city is known for it beauty. not the richest or classy place . But it is very beautiful .. I dont know much about this city.. EXcept Driving through it. So many flowers...

Paris, I personally dont like it.. Its to crowded, ugly, and not as pretty as other cities I mentioned..

This is just some places in france. That I have drove or visited..

Because its illegal to own guns.. No1 has guns except for the cops and mafia.. You dont see the mafia . Unless you go to marseille lol.. And 1 good thing is.. on comercials.. The women are topless.. cant get any better then that haha

In the U.s? I'd say Tennessee. Music culture there is as rich as anywhere. Weather is a little hot but it hardly snows and I like that a lot. People there are more "welcoming" then any of these northern states.

Tax rates aren't too bad unless you live in a tourist attraction spot.

Outside the u.s.? Never been outside the u.s. so I'll base this on speculation.

Ireland - has the worlds cleanest air last time I checked. Not sure riding a bicycle everyday would be fun though.

Germany - VERY little trash in this country, they recycle almost everything. The autobon IMO would be fun also.

I live in Victoria and it's nice enough. Taxes are high, but state education and medical care is good and the crime rate is comparatively low, as well as nice weather. It's certainly the best part of Australia.

Dubai is not in Saudi Arabia. Neither did you mention the rampant corruption, endless miles of abandoned construction projects and fundamentalist Islamic law.

Well this is what I am trying to determine.

I happen to know people who know people who work full time in Dubai, they say its shite and rent is oh-so-expensive.

Save your propaganda for a dupe. I'm only interested in actual lifestyle not whether or not you "think" it has a good socialist crapcare plan. When you say "universal healthcare" I translate this into "public healthcare", which will be the same as "public education" and "public transportation", i.e: run at a loss, in constant shortage, underfunded, and designed to crush and eliminate all competition.

You can forget the US. It's impossible to immigrate to.

Yeah the day I take advice that Germany is worth a second glance, hell will freeze over and fall out of the sky, hopefully crushing Germany.

Haha, I see you've got your priorities right there, Deacon. "High speed internet is a must! Oh, and low crime would be good too."

Honestly, I haven't researched much into the topic, but I'd have to say Italy. I don't know if I'd want to work there, but I would defiantly like to live there.

iceland is very poor, Canada has shitty weather 8 months of the year. Ireland i'd put up there, not enough info on Norway, and Australia... nobody likes high taxes with few benefits (Canada is the same way)

Germany, France, and much of the UK. Those are my top choices based on weather, working condition, women, government, etc etc.

UK is very expensive so it's barely on my list. It also depends on what type of job you plan on having. Most of Switzerland only works until 5, but without any immigration policies they've become overrun by Muslims.
