On a crazy overclocked computer, any OS would run well, and most likely, better than Vista.

XP was released in 2001, so it'll run fine on computers made around that time. The same goes with Vista. It runs fine on most PCs from around 2006/2007. Don't expect your old pc from 2002 to run Vista.
