Windows 10 Technical Preview - First Impression

After all the hate for windows 8 and still enjoying it, I expect windows 10 will be amazing.
I'm just glad it'll be free

 

As long as you pick it up in the first year it will be.

 

I wanted to bump this thread since I saw the free upgrade to windows 10 recently on my PC. I have windows 7, do you think its worth downloading it? Also, my comp has recently been freezing up alot, so I was thinking of restoring it anyways

 

I'd say go for it. I've noticed small little bugs here and there while testing on my laptop, but those are to be expected considering how new the OS is. Aside from that, I'm enjoying it, and will be upgrading my PC to 10 after full release.

 

Is this not the full release? It looks like its available to most users

 

Last I checked, it was still under technical preview/beta stage, however I haven't checked in a while to find out when official release is.

Edit: "Official" release date is July 29th

 

I will upgrade as well now wasn't sure at first because I have 7 but a free upgrade popped up for me.

Good review from what you say it looks like they took a step in the right direction for once.

Just a quick question will all programs that run on my current windows be able to run on windows 10? There will not be any problems with that right?

 

There shouldn't be any major compatibility issues, no. Everything I've run on the tech preview worked just fine.

 

Still waiting to find out where Microsoft somehow missed 9 inbetween 8 and 10, but oh well.

10 looks good but I'll probably run it in a virtual machine to have a play around with it first before installing it on the actual system. At least I'll have Windows 7 if things don't work out.

 

Microsoft didn't miss 9. They strategically skipped it due to the way some programs are coded.

The way it was explained to me is programs detect the OS based on the OS name. Windows 95/98 were grouped into a "windows 9" or "windows 9x" identifier. By releasing windows 9, there would have been a huge issue with said programs, therefore they skipped 9 and went to 10

Mind you i never personally verified this claim, but it makes sense. A little research would easily confirm or disprove this theory, although I do believe there is at least some truth behind it, if it's not entirely true all together.

 

I have the free upgrade to win10. Not sure though. Pretty used to 8.1 now.

 

have you tested the features that link xbox one/windows phone/others?
I have a surface pro, an asus gaming laptop, and an xbox one. If the features are similar to apple where I can text/call from any of my devices/read my texts/get reminders, I will probably be getting a windows phone when they release a new one because why not have it all linked.
What were your thoughts/impressions on this?

Those features aren't fully functional yet.

 

Looks pretty cool and haven't heard anything really bad, I signed up for my free version so I'm looking forward to it.
