Will Electronic Music Go Mainstream?

Electronic Dance Music has TAKEN OFF in the United States over the past few years. A once European-dominated genre has worked its way into being the #1 type of music played at clubs, surpassing rap and hip-hop as the preferred genre. Massive electronic festivals with hundreds of thousands of fans have sprouted up all over the US, only surpassed in size by the original Woodstock. Club beats are now in 3 out of every 4 top 40 songs (which are often produced by electronic artists) and some electronic songs themselves have been charting, seeing massive support from college students.

Where do you think the genre is going? Will it start to dominate the top 40 songs over the next few years? Will it never reach the level of hip-hop? Interested in hearing your opinions.

I mean taking over hip hop as the main top 40 genre. And most americans dont know much if anything about it still

 

I doubt it. The way I see it, the 21st century has been one huge musical melting pot. There's so much going on at once that it's pretty difficult for one genre to dominate the mainstream.

But in comparison to Hip Hop, I can't really say for sure since I don't follow much of what's happening in the top 40 anyway

 

Oh yeah, for sure! EDM will take over in no time!! EDC in Vegas has been fucking crazy. Can't wait to hit that bitch up this summer. Was trying to go to Ultra.. shit sold out before I even realized tickets were on sale.

And I'd say David Guetta is pretty mainstream at the moment. I like to look at him as a gate-way artist. Leads you to all the other monster tunes!

 

It's at this cross stage currently, you hear a lot of top 40 songs that have club beats then a catchy chorus followed by a rap verse (flo rida's secret formula).

Though real hiphop has never really been a top 40 whatsoever, it's more of a mix of r&b & hiphop.

 

Electronic music will definitely go main stream if it's not considered to be already. It deserves to, it's producing some of the best music out there at the moment.

Man, just one word; ULTRA. I been to ultra 3 times and it's one of the biggest electronic festivals in the world. People all over the world come to Miami SoFlo (where i live ) to come to this place! Over 90,000+ attendees since '08 each year (the year I started going). Compared to woodstock..it's almost there, Woodstock was like 300k? Ultra getting close..

 

Yes. Asian Pop music will also dominate.
