You're all 12. Nah, actually I just wanted the title to bring a bunch of people in here. K now this thread is my take on various subjects (in America) -
Civil rights - You don't get rights because you're black, gay, white, straight, short, tall, rich, poor, etc. You get rights because YOU'RE AN INDIVIDUAL. This being said, you don't have a RIGHT to a house or a RIGHT to a car or even a RIGHT to food or money. What you do get rights to are the ability to work towards these things and the right to life.
Gay marriage - Personally, I don't give a fuck if you take it up the ass or not. What you do in your bedroom is your business but if the majority of the state doesn't want you to be able to get tax rebates or benefits like that or even let you be a "union" then you'll have to deal with it. Move to a place where homosexuality is socially acceptable. The majority of people should get what they want, NOT the minority (contrary to popular belief).
Drug law - All drugs should be legal, no exceptions. Drugs can help ruin a life but the penalties for the drugs are even worse. Now if I put someone else or someone elses property at risk, that should be a crime. For instance, if I went and stole your car for money for my drug habit or was impaired and decided to drive.
Prostitution - Same thing as drug laws. If someone wants to pay a dirty skank for sex, why the hell not? Of course, the two people involved must be willing to accept the risks involved (STDs, pregnancy, etc). NO government regulation (See below)
Government regulation - Practically none. I'm a capitalist through and through and can tell you right now that government involvement just fucks things up. I'm against any type of public agency run by bureaucrats to "protect" me, such as the FDA. Let me try to prove my point. If the FDA for some reason became corrupted (hmm.. naw, that's not happening now :/) do you know what would happen? Nothing. They might fire a few people but they corruption would still be there. Now take the MSRB. This is a private company that rates video games before they can be sold in major retail stores. Not because the government forces them to but because the consumers won't but them if they're not rated. Say the MSRB became corrupted. Do you know what would happen? THEY WOULD GO BANKRUPT AND OUT OF BUSINESS! Their rating means jack shit at this point because they ruined their reputation through immoral actions. At this point someone else would come around and replace the MSRB.
FACT: The government has a monopoly on schools and other important parts of society resulting in poorer quality. Competition breeds perfection.
Building permits and bullshit of the like - Against it. It's MY land and I should be able to do with it what I like. I shouldn't need to get approval to put a shed in MY yard.
Women's right to choose - Personally, I wouldn't have an abortion. Do I care if you do? Not really. HOWEVER, because in the great land of America we have the 10th Amendment, if the majority of people want to make to abortion of a HUMAN BEING (that's what it is my friends, look at the science) illegal then that's how it would have to go down.
Capital punishment - Because I firmly believe that prisons should be used for rehabilitation, I am against the death penalty. If a person kills another person the prison system should show him why the crime was wrong in the first place. IE the programs in the prisons should fit the crime in order to rehabilitate the person back into society. This isn't happening right now but I know that executing someone isn't going to help rehabilitate them.
EDIT: Stem-cell research - I don't care if a private company wants to research the use of stem-cells for cures BUT they shouldn't be getting government funding. Why do I have to pay for their research? Do I get some sort of award or reimbursement if they make a discovery? What if I was personally against the moral aspect of it? Why should I need to pay for it?
