Why should I keep a mechanical keyboard?

I've recently bought the Logitech Mechanical Gaming Keyboard G413 though the reason for this keyboard was to ensure those whom I speak with on voicechat would not hear me typing. Instead, it feels like it's way louder than the usual Logitech keyboards I used to use - which were just old standard ones. While the glowing red light on this one is nice, it really is all I can really see as an improvement. I've heard stories about those mechanical keyboards registering keystrokes differently or better, but if this really gives me an advantage while gaming I'm not sure - haven't experienced it so far anyways. Could anyone inform me in their own words about this? Or do you perhaps own a keyboard that isn't loud while typing?

Why should I keep a mechanical keyboard?

There are a variation of different mechanical switches, each to have a different user experience.

The benefit of a mechanical keyboard is usually limited to the tactile feedback, however, mechanical keyboards can actually be quite quiet.

So the benefit of mechanical keyboards can be in the required actuation force required to perform a keystroke. Less actuation force means faster keystrokes. That doesnt mean that your typing will become faster ofcourse, but it does mean that your input will feel more direct.

Why should I keep a mechanical keyboard?

Personally, I really enjoy typing on my Cherry MX Blues.

    I'll give you a quote from LifeHacker.com
~ " Cherry MX Blue. Cherry MX Blue switches are a typists dream. Not terribly
popular in gaming keyboards (but still popular with gamers because they just sound so
good), but extremely popular for day-to-day typing, the MX Blues offer that audible,
tactile "click" when the actuation point is hit."

Here's the link to the article: https://lifehacker.com/how-to-choose-the-best-mechanical-keyboard-and-why-you-511140347

What I can tell you is only from my own experience. Cherry MX Blue switches are enjoyable for me to type on, I find myself gliding through text while barely using my backspace.

They are quite audible though, Cherry MX Blues are considered one of the loudest mechanical switches. If you are in an environment where this is an issue, then it might not be worth getting Cherry MX Blue's which begs the question wether it would be worth getting a mechanical keyboard at all.

All I know is that once I started using Cherry MX Blue's, I've come to dislike all the cheap membrane keyboards that I've used in the past. I'm sure there are quality membrane keyboards out there but with quality comes a cost.

If you aren't sure what to get, you can always try going to mediamarkt and see if they have a few different mechanical keyboards for sale that you can try out :p

Why should I keep a mechanical keyboard?

I would recommend trying out chinese knockoff switches. I've had real cherry keyboards before IMO you cant spot ANY difference.
$40 gets you a full sized keyboard.
Avoid blue switches, they are very loud. Cherry browns are quiet and feel tactile.
Black switches are membrane-y but good for gaming. Reds switches are too light for my taste.

Why should I keep a mechanical keyboard?

So you guys do advise me to get mechnical keyboards (which seem to be the case with those switches) despite there being not really any significant advantages while gaming and/or typing? The main reason I wanted to get a new keyboard is because this old Logitech keyboard makes so much noise when typing, so basically I want to ensure my headset doesn't pick up any sound of my keyboard when I'm typing.

Why should I keep a mechanical keyboard?

yeah just feels better. not necessarily faster& no advantages when gaming -all myth..
Judging by your thoughts maybe take a look: Logitech K740 Illuminated USB Keyboard with Built-in Palm Rest
Low profile is good, membrane or no. Ideally go for logitech.
