    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

It doesn't matter if it's illegal or not. People are still going to do it. Just with like any other illegal drugs. We could put it this way, if you smoke a lot of cigarettes be prepared to possibly have lung cancer. Drink too much alcohol, prepare to possibly have liver damage or something worse. Smoke bud, be prepared to be arrested. Just like the other legal habits above. It's a consequence if you're really willing to take it, go for it.

Also marijuana is not really portrayed as "bad." There are plenty of stories the media does that portray it in a almost positive light. You might be confusing the "bad" aspect the media portrays with the dealers of the illegal drug.

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

I'm actually not too sure. There are worse substances (alcohol, tabacco) that have worse effects on your behavior, health and well-being than Marijuanna, yet they are legal T_T

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

DECRIMINALIZE MARIJUANA DECRIMINALIZE MARIJUANA DECRIMINALIZE MARIJUANA DECRIMINALIZE MARIJUANA DECRIMINALIZE MARIJUANA DECRIMINALIZE MARIJUANA DECRIMINALIZE MARIJUANA

I'm all for legalizing weed but there is no reason why it isn't decriminalized....

I honestly just wrote a huge page of information about how I feel Marijuanai is so much safer than Alcohol / tobacco / Fast food.

    here's the tl;dr version:

--Marijuana is proven to help with cancer patients, and people much muscle pain, anxiety, depression, and much more. The downsides are umm hurting your lungs? Not as harsh compared to tobacco / cigar's...

Did I mention you can't overdose and die from weed??

--Tobacco is proven to cause cancer over long term use right?
--Tobacco is proven to have second hand effects on people around you right?
--Alcohol kills millions of teens who drink too much too fast right??

Tobacco / alcohol is man made?
Weed is naturally grown (Is man made as well if you want to be a smart ass)
    ____________________

So why is Weed not legal but these clearly dangerous drugs are? Money.

These other corporations are so corrupt they know that weed being legal would kill their profits!

But with those little points not really in-depth I want to say this:

Marijuana is not and should not be classified the same level of danger as heroin!

I'm all for legalizing marijuana as it should be but I 100% feel it should be decriminalized...

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

It goes back to 1800's when the paper business was dying to the hemp business, because hemp was cheaper and easier to produce. Laws were passed to restrict hemp growing so that the paper industry could survive.
tl;dr Paper is why weed is illegal.

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

Besides the whole paper industry history, many people ignore the fact that it alters your state of consciousness (classifying it as a drug). Everyone smoked it in the hippie era so no one thought of any medical uses for it, just the fact that hippies smoked it got high.

Therefore when talking about marijuana today, when smoking it no one thinks you are "taking medicine". Everyone knows you are "getting high", which makes people look down on those who use it.

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

I do like to look at marijuana as a medicine instead of as a drug, look at all the other drugs around us, codeine, caffeine etc all used as a legal drug or as a medicine, makes much more sense to me than having weed illegal.

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

It is illegal because it is a multi molecule drug and they cannot patent it.

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

Sucks that its only frowned upon because of past events like Hippies, and Black people. Like don't they understand they could get themselves out of debt?!?!

In 1961 weed was made illegal in the U.S. because it was seen as a negro's drug and the government was obviously having problems at that time with integration.
Making this 'drug' illegal was meant to deter black's from coming to north america. When the politicians we have now which are all white old men die, there can be a new group of this generation's politicians that can bring the youth's views on drugs up and possibly change the current law.

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

The purchase or cultivation of narcotic drugs is required to be classified as a criminal offense in all United Nations countries. This was a convention put forth by, yes, the United Nations. Seeing as the United States could not withdraw from a society it played such a key role in establishing and maintaining, the United States had to classify the possession of marijuana as illegal. All other countries in the United Nations must follow the same convention or face pressure from the U.N.. While the pressure may not be enough to really cripple a country in any direct way, said country would lose support and have the possibility of ejection.

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

I can honestly say that i think it comes with all the stereotype from people.
Here in the US, the goverment portays "Lower Class" or the Ghetto that its where you'll end up, or Its a "Gateway Drug" which makes no sense because Any drug can be a "Gateway Drug" if you think about it. They also push Drug programs on TV. And that only gang members and crimanals smoke and thats al lthey do.
A lot of the Goverment officals we elect are retarded here in the US. Once where about 60 well for me atleast, It will be passed. But untill then they will continue to portray it as a "horrible" thing. If it was so bad then why are the penalties so "soft"??? -.0

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

this is a big factor but not the only one. Its really good though. Most of it is all about money, no matter how much we protest in the end it will always be whether the big bosses can make money from it.

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

I don't know if this is a fact or not.. but I've heard one of the reasons it was banned was because it couldn't be actually taxed by the government? I'm not sure if this is true because honestly they can tax anything...

    Why is Marijuana Illegal?

I can not think of (or find) any proof of that statement. To the best of my knowledge, marijuana could and would be taxed. If there is a law against the taxation of narcotic drugs (which I believe there is not, seeing as they are illegal and there is no tax on an illegal substance) then that law would quickly be repealed.

Also, I see a lot of people complaining only about the United States government. Yes, the government is the one who makes the choice whether it becomes legalized or not but the decision is not so black and white as "legalize or not." As I mentioned earlier, the United States keeps marijuana illegal in federal law because the U.N.'s conventions demand it. The United States thus has to choose between international relations and the legalization of a narcotic.

Even though marijuana produces no immediately impairing side-effects (when compared to other narcotics and alcohol) and research has only speculation into it's link with cancer (I am not saying it causes cancer, I am saying that research is speculating that it does due to patterns in tests but they have no direct link between the consumption of marijuana and cancer) it is still an internationally frowned upon drug.

To sum it up, the choice will create hatred either way:
Maintain international standard or legalize narcotic drug (I know "narcotic" is a harsh word BUT that is the way it is viewed by politicians in the United States and abroad)

Addition 1: I have stated that marijuana research has found no direct link to lung cancer but while this is true, upon further investigation, research does show lung damage and potential for respiratory problems. Marijuana is also believed, in some cases, to cause immune system problems. It is, after all, inhaling a foreign chemical into your lungs. So, while marijuana (so far) proves to be less carcinogenic, if at all, then cigarettes, it does not make it a completely care-free drug. [Disclaimer (sort of): I am stating what I am finding in research results provided by the NIH. The NIH is a reputable health research company with a long history in the field. The effects of marijuana may not be obvious to all individuals and some may even be unaffected, just as lung cancer is common among smokers but not all smokers suffer from the illness. In no way are these results meant to apply to all individuals.]

To state my position: I am not necessarily against the legalization of marijuana. If it were legalized I would not mind but I believe that there should be some limitation to the amount one person could purchase per month (or something of the sort). If this system is possible in anyway, I do not know as of yet. I think providing a near infinite supply of marijuana would cause more social than health problems.
