Why does christmas lose its charm?

I remember when I was younger, and every day of the year was spent looking forward to christmas. December used to be the longest, but best month of the year just waiting for that day. I loved sledding and decorating the house, and watching claymation movies, but now, its just another day. I mean even after I found out santa wasn't real christmas was great.

Why do you think christmas loses its charm, and has it happened to you?

Santa is not real? Thanks for ruining my Christmas.

I always enjoy Christmas, it cannot be the same every year, but still good.

It's weird when I think about it, because it is true that christmas has lost its charm for me. When I was little, It used to feel like ages waiting for christmas, and it was really enjoyable getting presents and watching films and shows on tv.

Now it just feels like the years are getting shorter, and before I know it, it's christmas again. These days I don't really get given presents anymore, just money, which is good for me but it doesn't feel the same as receiving a load of wrapped up presents. Also when I watch tv during christmas now, most of the films are boring since I watched them so many times before.

Haha, most people have all ready stated the main reason - commercialism, but I also think that, as you get older, you end up buying more presents for people (younger siblings, other family members, etc), compared to receiving them haha. Personally, I don't celebrate Christmas, but my friend said his mom isn't buying him any presents this year because he's "too old". Christmas probably just lost it's charm because you've outgrown it.

x339, I know exactly what you are talking about.

I remember being a child and the I would anticipate Christmas for months while December approached. I would also spend all month looking forwards to it, participating in art projects & crafts at school, watching Christmas movies with my family, getting totally engulfed in the magic of this holiday season.

As I get older, I still love Christmas, but it seems to lose its magic just a little more every year. I think some of it has to do with other things in life becoming bigger and more important - such as my job requring that I work on Christmas Day for the last few years, or maybe the fact I stopped believing in Santa Clause years ago, and realized it was actually just my parents being forced to go out and buy me stuff every year. I think mostly it has to do with how much of a commercial holiday Christmas has become over the years though, and its extremely sad to see... :(

used to love it. Go to my grandma's house christmas eve. Open presents there at 12am on the nose. Hang out with cousins. Now that everyone is like 17-19 its kinda old and no one is really into it. Family still does the hole "Open presents at 12am" kinda annoying when you just wanna go home and sleep, but there still are smaller kids there so w/e.

Meh. Idk. I haven't really gotten into the spirit the last few years... Maybe when I move out and have to decorate myself I feel get more into it but right now I don't care enough about living here that it doesn't really matter to me anymore... Other people decorate and stuff so who cares. lol.

Not to be rude but it's because most of you are in those miserable teenage years. Some of you have the privilege of seeing your family everyday (although it may not seem that way).

Another reason could be because you always see your family whereas if you don't ever see them it's a time of joy when you reunite with the family.

SANTA
I miss waking up to Christmas presents and leaving Milk and Cookies out at night. :)

Personally, Christmas lost it's charm because my daily routine still doesn't change and everything will still roll the way it would any other day.

I do appreciate the free shit though, that's always nice. :)

I don't celebrate Christmas. I do celebrate Black Friday, however. Black Friday will never loose its charm IMO. But my guess is that it just gets boring. There is only so much to do in the long run at a family reunion. I just like to get done with and go play some shit on my computer.

As you get older it just gets worse and worse in my opinion. Most people know what they're getting or they just don't really want/need anything else. (At least in my case.) It was always so great when I was younger, but yeah it definitely has lost it's charm I think.

This.

Getting older must suck, eh? ;)

I think it's because you have a lot more on your mind when you get older. When you're really young there isn't really anything in your life that matters or is important that you have any control over. You're carefree and able to do whatever you want, so Christmas seems fantastic because there's nothing in you're life to bring it down. Once you're older and you have to start doing exams and working and taking life seriously it's hard to take your mind off that. Even whilst I'm sitting with my family, enjoying a delicious Christmas dinner it'll be hard for me to forget about the stress of school and exams and going to College. Also, I think the whole concept just gets old and repetitive as you age.

Children are more susceptible to the 'brainwash' of a commercial Christmas, if you will. You then grow up and realize it's just another day. I still enjoy and look forward to the day, though I don't believe in the commercial side of Christmas, it's more a time to bond with family and an excuse to express my appreciation and thankfulness.

Lol, too old? My mom doesn't seem to know the meaning of that. Even though I've been out of the house for a while now, she keeps asking me every year what I'd like for Christmas, despite me telling her that she doesn't have to get me anything. Hm...now that I think about it, my whole family has pretty much been that way, even my grandmother asks all my aunts, etc. what they want. I guess it's just because of how close the family is.

Christmas still feels special, probably because of that, although it isn't a 'wow, I can't wait' thing anymore. It's lost a lot of it's touch but I think that's just from growing up and not being interested in the vast amounts of toys and whatever produced anymore.

I feel like that had been happening to me for the past couple years. Recently however, I realized that what I needed to do more of was just spend my vacation with my family. Like actually being with them, engaging in conversation, spending time with them, not just being in the same house as them but totally isolated. I feel like this has been a pretty good End of the Year tbh, I'm feeling great now that I've let go of the bad stuff.

I think what you need to do is find new things to do during your holidays. I mean, the things you listed may have been fun when you were younger, but maybe now it's time to find other ways to enjoy the holidays. Sure it may seem like just another day, but it doesn't make it any better when you don't try and make the best of it :o

i remember it used to be alot better and i wasnt excited for this christmas but christmas was still very fun so...i guess it changes or maybe i should be more excited next year....
also i know everything im getting now so there isnt as much of the surprise factor on christmas day

Because the older you get the more things you have on your mind. You stop caring about Christmas but about the other shit that's going on.
