Why arn't all commercials funny?

I don't get it, people actually watch commercials during the superbowl when they're funny, why don't companies make most of their commercials funny the rest of the year, I would certainly watch a couple because right now, I jsut turn the channel or leave the room really quick, doesn't it make sense to make them funny all year long? and not for one day

 

Some commercials approach sensitive subjects and for them to be amusing would be distasteful.

 

What about buswesier? The superbowl ones canbe hilarious, but they play boring ones all year besides the superbowl.

 

I dunno maybe they are trying to focus more on the product?

 

It all depends on the demographic you are trying to appeal to. For example a lot of drunk idiots watch the super bowl, therefore they play "funny" commercials. If you are watching a soap opera at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday there is probably going to be a different audience, and different commercials trying to appeal to that audience.

 

They try to get you to remember them and sometimes funny commercials don't appeal to all

 

It would be pathetic marketing to only have funny commercials as they don't suit certain demographics. Advertisements are different based on what program is airing, when it is airing, what type of people watch the program, etc. Simple marketing strategies really.

Edit: Also consider what is being advertised. If it's beer or something, yeah it can be funny. Let's say it is a medication to help with depression or heart problems or something. Why on earth would they create a commercial that is humorous? It would make no sense.

 

Depending on who the commercial is aimed towards, and what it is advertising is how funny / serious it will be.

 

Because not everyone has the same sense of humor.

 

This. Also, some products would be really awkward if the commercial was made funny. For example some medicine for the ill.

Commercials are just an example of companies/governments/organisations attempting to reach a large scale audience.

In Australia, the government often airs many anti-smoking TV ads. - They arn't funny at all.

 

Commercials dont need to be funny. It also depends on whose attention it wants.

 

a commercial about cancer is not gona be funny, while a comercial about beer could be funny

 

Like said above, not everyone has a sense of humor and some companies tend to want their ads more serious and clearly display the product.
