    I wore green'D Hide leather and I hade salmon. This level 48 range started attacking me and I kept eating but I could not even hit her and she was just destroying me!

    Maybe use Lobsters or swordfish. Was the person higher level than you, if so don't fight them until you're more experienced. Stay aggressive, try not to eat if you don't have to, that way you can put them on the defensive.

    Better food and maybe your levels should be trained before going into the wilderness.
