    C4d?

So far in photoshop I've just been using brushes, but I'm wondering what is C4D. Because I have no clue whatsoever about how to use it, what exactly it is, what program to use it with and stuff like that. I'm wondering if there are any tutorials for anything basic like that?

    C4D - Cinema 4D (that's what c4d means)

To sum it up: c4ds are 3d renders, usually abstract explosions, waves, loops and the such. There are plenty on the net to download, to make them yourself (I suggest not even trying - I tried and found out that planetrenders will always have something better) use cinema 4d.

They are mainly used for overlaying effects or sometimes as renders. For tuts visit youtube or just search google - tons of tuts out there. Hope I helped you xD.

    C4d?

I think of them as backgrounds.

Although thats not strictly true, But they are often used as the background render to help make something more dynamic.

    C4d?

To build on what mastasnip said, c4d's are usually very sharp. They tend to be good for smudging and adding slight details. Effect c4d are usually on color/linear dodge and have small "highlights" of the c4d showing through out to add just that, a highlight.

It's just a picture, you can use it in any image editing program. For a good stash of them register on http://www.planetrenders.net/ and go in the category 'c4ds'. Hope a mod won't give me an infraction for advertising >_>

Edit - a few examples (backgrounds are transparent):
